Flanders visited by Naya

Recently I read a number of articles reporting the return of the wolf in Flanders. Although such news has been reported before, this time the wolf, called Naya, has actually been spotted in our most eastern province, Limburg, on the border with Holland. Naya has been seen in a natural area called Bocholt. Although this is a roaming specimen, according to specialists it will not take long before this noble species settles again in Flanders. And this is something we have to prepare for, as this remains one of the most mythical and powerful creatures of our Abendland. 

In the medieval epic Ysengrimus, written in 1148 – 1149 and probably written in my birth city Ghent, the wolf and the fox play the principle roles in this satire of human/mundane behaviour. The epic creates an inverse world which is critical of the medieval society, as deceivers are being deceived themselves, the weak are stronger than the powerful and so on. The wolf Isengrimus and the fox Reinaert are enemies. Reinaert is cunning and smart, while the wolf is depicted as brute and loudmouthed,  whose only desire is to eat. In this epic the wolf is portrayed as the monk, the greedy Magian for many monks lead a very selfish life as their orders were rich, and although the Christian creed is all about donating to the poor, the Church as an organization became focused on power and material wealth. The spiritual/chivalrous core of the Christian faith (compassion, love, defending the weak) has only been kept active by occult orders and by some genuine monasteries. Now, in Ysengrimus the picture of the wolf is thus not a pretty one, as he is seen as a representative of the Magian caste of greed and selfishness.

But this is of course not a Paganus way of looking at this beautiful and proud animal. We can state that this animal represents the Numinous, an elusive and ancient force of a once uncorrupted Mother Nature, of a primal Eorthe. As Chris Van Steenwegen, director of a Flemish nature organization called Natuurpunt, writes: on the one hand they are phenomenal and fascinating creatures for they are part of old and new stories (we recall the importance of a mytho-poetics for a new Solar Imperium), and they trigger our imagination because they are connected through the earth with the Acausal.  On the other hand they fulfill a unique role in their habitat because they are top predators as emperors of the food chain. They cannot be replaced and as they are back in Europe: they must stay here! They belong here.

Researchers have concluded that the wolf does not need a vast wilderness to settle himself, but enough food such as does and wild boars, a sheltered place to rest, a natural environment is more than enough. And this is exactly what Flanders has at this point, so if we let it happen, the wolf can return to Flanders permanently, as in Germany and France. This is only a matter of time.

Of course, in Flanders we are no longer used to living together with such wild animals because our region is densely populated with lots of concrete, and mostly ugly houses. Our historical cities are wonderful and unique, but our countryside needs some serious re-evalution (if this will ever happen?). If we want to make the comeback of the wolf a success, then we will need a plan of how to live together, how to protect the cattle, how to make sure that the wolves can wander the countryside without having to pass busy roads and so on. In Germany the plan ‘Willkommen Wolf’ has successfully prepared the Germans for their new wild neighbour.

These animals seem dangerous and wicked (the way they are always depicted cfr. Isengrimus) and tough, but they are first and foremost very shy and vulnerable when it comes to re-introducing them in such areas as Flanders. We do not have vast woods where these animals can roam freely and where they are truly in charge. It is up to us in Flanders to adapt ourselves, and to rediscover the ancient connexion with the Land, the Soil and its original inhabitants. The Western Gestell has turned everything into an object for profit, in the service of the worship of money: the land, animals, water, wind, fire, …. Leftist and naïve ecologists do not believe in this Numinous connexion with the Soil and the importance of the Heimat, and thus they actually participate in the pitiless lobby that turns air, water, soil and fire into objects of profit.

The Numinous energy which connects these vital elements is something that passes through us as well, and we have forgotten all about that. The Return of the Wolf should wake us up again. Of course, I am well aware of modern man’s addiction to moneymaking and profit, so will have to go through the Sinister period of the Kali Yuga, the ultimate fulfilment of Nihilism, before ‘we’ (or a successive species or none at all) will rise up again, but this time in balance and in pure awe with ‘its’ environment. Like a pack of Wolves we or the successive species will have to learn to adapt to Gaia’s rule and learn to become invisible, wordless so to speak. Now, we as a species are addicted to being loud, visible, noisy, omnipresent and this is our Hubris for which we shall be punished. Now, this apocalyptic note cannot stop us from taking action, and protecting the wolf in order to make sure that this roaming specimen can become a pack of wolves again! 

Friedrich Hielsher

The mighty Wolves play a central role in the beautiful poem by the Conservative Revolutionary artist and mystic Friedrich Hielscher (1902 – 1990). As stated on the sheet of the marvelous anthology Wir rufen deine Wölfe (Ahnstern – various neofolk bands such as Werkraum, Turbund Sturmwerk, …) Friedrich Hielscher was a most multifaced artist, and he was the founder of a religious system and the head of the heathen-panentheist Independent Free Church. In his mystical system the Christian God and the gods of ancient Europe were united in order to celebrate the return of the Divine.

As a Conservative Revolutionary Hielscher resisted the causal form ‘National-Socialism’, and he believed, like Heidegger, in a spiritual and cultural potential that was held by the German Volk. As mystics Heidegger and Hielscher are tributary to the poet Hölderlin. Like Hölderlin Hielscher was very much attached to the idea of the Heimat, and Hielscher believed in a secret Germany (Geheimes Deutschland). In line with the Conservative Revolution Hielscher did not agree with the crude biologist science of social Darwinism (devoid of any mysticism and Numinous core) on which the populist version of the NS ideology was founded.  Heidegger too was very much disappointed in the way National-Socialism had developed in the course of WWII. Here Heidegger saw the continuation of the Nihilism that was, and still acts, as a destructive force within the Abendland. This was a deadly force which Nietzsche had dealt with, and Jünger as well in the Gestalt of the Worker-Soldier. Heidegger at first believed that NS could overcome this Nihilism and introduce a new dawn of our Greek heritage.

Now Hielscher did not focus on a new dawn as he actually connected paganism with an essentialist ethnic Weltanschauung (which in NS was overshadowed by its emphasis on the war industry). With the poem “We call our Wolves” Hielscher sets forth his belief in the Ancient Gods of Germanic paganism and their Return (the image of the Wild Hunt). Here Hielscher invokes the Wild Hunt, led by Wotan, and it will claim many victims so the poet cries out to the Lord: “Your salvation sustains us!”.  

The poem is in a fact a prayer to be saved from a faceless enemy with a seedless carcass (the Heideggerian das Man, the mundane crowd infected by Nihilism). The Wild Hunt actually revives the ancient pagan intoxication and enthusiasm, which was killed by the Kali Yuga. As such Hielscher opposes the industrialization of the West, its consumerism, the deadly technological growth by calling forth the Ancient Germanic gods by using the image of the Wolf.

The ‘twelve Wolves’ called upon are the Ancient gods: Loki, Freya, …. And they are led by Wotan, the Archetype of frenzy and magic. Hölderlin and Heidegger returned to the ancient gods as well, to the Greek ones, but they did not believe in a possible return. The World of das Man was no longer ready and equipped to receive them and to welcome the Gods back. With Hielscher however we see some sort of a compromise: he invokes the ancient gods as the pack of twelve wolves, and through their Wild Hunt he calls upon the Lord, whose salvation sustains us. Nor Heidegger nor Hölderlin believed in the value of the Magian religion, but somehow Hielsher did and he connected the Christian Lord with the twelve main Germanic gods.

Ragnarokr: Joy before Death

Nevertheless this difference these three German mystics and their poesis of the Heimat wake up ancient forces within us. We can learn from them that the presence of the Wolves is direly needed: both in the flesh and in the spirit. The Wolf Naya embodies the flesh and spirit of our dying Abendland and its Return is most Joyful. The Nihilism of our technological and industrial era is not omnipresent, nor cannot it destroy the mytho-poetic power of what once was great. Spengler taught us everything about the rise and fall of cultures and civilizations, which has been translated into the occult system of the Order of Nine Angles. We applaud the Return of the Wolves and may the Wild Hunt be ruthless so that the coming Ragnarok will be fruitful. Agios O Fenrir! Joy before Death! 333!

The Acéphalic community

We must keep in mind the following acpehalic points of Bataille’s Programme drawn up in 1936. An important periode as the Great Depression ruled Europe and many intellectuals were dissatisfied with the parliamentary democracy, the industrial revolution. The Conservative revolution in Germany was the strongest outburst of dissatisfaction, but Bataille also shared a number of ideas. We must keep in mind though that Bataille did not seek for the birth of a new ‘political’ movement, but his Weltanschauung certainly had a return to the Sacred in mind for the West.

 1. Form a community, creative of values, values creative of cohesion.

2. Assume the function of destruction and decomposition, but as an accomplishment, and not as a negation of being.

3. Realize the universal accomplishment of personal being in the irony of the animal world and through the revelation of an acephalic universe.

4. Take upon oneself perversion and crime, not as exclusive values, but as integrated within the human totality.

5. Realise the personal accomplishment of being and its tension through concentration, through a positive asceticism and through positive individual and collective discipline.

6. Fight for the decomposition  and exclusion of all communities socialist, nationalist, communist or churchly.

7. Affirm the reality of values, the resulting inequality of men, and acknowledge the organic character of society.

8. Take part in the destruction of the existing world, with eyes open to the world to come.

9. Affirm the value of violence and the will to aggression insofar as they are the foundation of all power.

Meditate on these words and incorporate them in your Sacred  Weltanschaung. Today’s ultra political correctness and cheap leftist anthropocentrism has turned many of these statements into negative, forbidden and in-human principles. Yet our mysticism is of a Nietzschean kind: tragic, organic and true to the Eorthe, vibrant, the affirmation and destruction of life, truly human, un-relentless, poetic & mythological.  These statements are of an ultimate aeonic importance as they lay the foundation of a possible new Western world / civilization to come. One we cannot envisage or practically aim for, but we need to be reminded of a possible Return to the Origin of the West: the Greek bewilderment. This present World cannot be our aim as it would stifle our actions, but we must always remind ourselves of our Gnostic origin and the discontinuous state of Being.  

As Christos Beest (ONA) once explained the ‘earthing’ of acausal, Numinous forces is done by adepts and initiates of the Sinister Path, by warriors, poets and artists, and thus ‘earthing’ is laying/preparing the esoteric foundation of a new world to come.

Like Bataille we want to cultivate and re-instate the Sacred again and we genuinely believe in the need of an elective headless (anarchic – Jünger) communities in order to unleash the Numinous forces again. Bataille referred to these “as a secret society, network” or even an “order” in the truly religious or initiatory sense. Such communities were/are the setting for the examination of and experimentation with “truths that lacerate, which absorb those to whom they appear and is even animated by a movement which distances from them.” (Irwin, Saints of the Impossible, p. 19). The idea was to corrode the wider society through the sacred energies embodied by the community focused on figures of Death (our Sein-zum-Tode) and beyond any instrumental logic.” Acéphale had no explicit ‘political’ agenda, no goals beyond this one: “Existence, that is to say tragedy”. Our prophet aimed at a shattering of the “principle of the head” as all revolutions have historically lead to just another tyranny (one “head”) based on mundane and worldly power.

The “head” so to speak sucks up all the blood, all the vitality of the society, and therefore paralyzes all vitality, creativity by turning it into an obedient, lifeless servility. One must not forget that a society, a community is an organism just like our bodies and the blood needs to flow freely through the organism. There can only be a ‘leadership’ in the occult sense: those who have been initiated and gone through several ordeals. Their fearless and harsh leadership is beyond the need for power or domination, as they have transcended hubris. They are devoted to the collective and its numinous connexion.

Such communities, like the Nexions of the Sinister Tradition, genuine monastic orders exist beyond the mundane realm. Of course, they participate in ‘mundane’ actions such as taking care of and protecting each other, educating each other, making dinner, growing vegetables and so on, but all in harmony with their natural surroundings. These actions have become Numinous and therefore ‘reason’, as promoted by the Enlightenment and positivist science, has been left behind. These Acéphalic communities are not ‘managed’, but they are alive, they thrive from the blood energy of their member who remain faithful to ancient traditions and to the land where they have grown up. Therefore according to Bataille: “The formation of a new structure, of an ‘order’ developing and seething through the entire earth, is the only real liberatory act – and the only one possible.” (Irvin 20).

Like Bataille we genuinely are fed up with the inertia (still present) of the West, and we are dissatisfied with the instrumentalism that dominates the hegemonic Weltanschauung and so, poetic-ontologically, we have no choice but to think of alternatives. Today, orders such as the Order of Nine Angles, the remaining medieval monastic orders, occult groups with a Pagan Weltanschauung, Traditionalists all carry with them the everlasting flame, Pneuma of the Deus Absconditus. The life forms that are (being) established by them form that very alternative. As the West is slowly dying, infested by its own corruption and greed, these communities (even when they come and go) are the sign that alchemical gold grain of the West is not lost and still fertile.

The Heideggerian Übermensch

The Übermensch is an important philosophical and aeonic concept. Heidegger in his reading of Nietzsche describes the Übermensch as follows: a “Caesar with the Soul of Christ”.

The Übermensch is therefore a most spiritual figure and he is not an ape-like brute, a blond beast, a Will-less fighting machine or some biologically conceived superman. The Übermensch is not a product of science such as evolutionary biology or eugenics. Heidegger was most critical towards the nihilistic purpose of what he called ‘productionist metaphysics’. The scientific and industrial revolution had turned everything most radically into a productionist mode which had cause man to fall out of being. Having become blind,  man was (and still is) gripped by hubris as he wanted nothing but to control and measure everything. And this is still happening today with the digital revolution. The scientific ‘Übermensch’ is a soul-less creation, a Faustian invention in overdrive of which the creator is not an alchemist, but a cold and rational surgeon. His type of Overman is not overman at all, for it is a rational consequence of the modern man’s addiction to management, rationalising, science & ‘output’. This is not the Alchemist at work who does not rely on outcome, but focusses on the quality of the Grand Opus at work and regards himself the Vessel instead of the cold engineer. The Heideggerian Übermensch is not a product, or an output of some laboratory but is a most ingenious process, an Alchemical state of mind which is truly Western in essence.

As the modern Western man is definitely out of touch with Dasein, Heidegger regarded the Übermensch as a  salfivic figure. As a Janus faced figure, he possesses the Sacred essence of Jünger’s Man of Steel and Hölderlin’s mystical Poet. In the 1930’s Heidegger saw the need of a transitional figure to discard the modernist hegemonic ideal of “boundless, purely quantitative nonstop progress” and he recognised the need for an attitude of humility, a simpler way of life, more loving and tender, and yet tough and strict in order to sacrifice the ego instead of focussing on one’s personal ‘economic/selfish’ growth.

With the rise of National-Socialism Heidegger, as rektor and most important German philosopher at that time, aimed for a philosophical and spiritual renewal, a counter movement away from the steady Decline of the West. According to Heidegger the Übermensch’s way of life would be an organic one by not raising oneself above the community but by being an integral part of it. We know very well that Heidegger preferred an organic rural community to an uprooting city life. Such an elite and extraordinary man (a Solar Warrior – Priest) has also been described by Traditionalist thinkers, such as Evola, with whom Heidegger shared his vision on the Zeitgeist. Both thinkers have two radically different approaches, but like the thinkers of the Conservative Revolution they share some very distinct ideas.

Heidegger was most critical of the herd-like bourgeoisie who did not possess any of the virtues of the Übermensch. The society in which the Übermensch could stand up was one of Tradition, rank-ordering, nobility & respect. Although Heidegger by the end of the 1930’s criticized the industrial nature and the ongoing war machine of the NS movement (and we agree as the ‘operational’ modus of NS derailed signicificantly), he did recognise the fertile soil of the Völkisch movements celebrating mystery, nature & the connexion between man & his Heimat. This was a most fruitful Prima Materia from which an Architect and Alchemist could work to guide the process of the Übermensch.

Heidegger thus continued the Sacred work of Nietzsche, Spengler and Jünger, and like an Alchemist himself he, as a thinker and philosopher, dedicated his Work in all humility to the Inner Greatness which was about to be dis-covered, unfolded.  His Übermensch can therefore be seen as a powerful synthesis of great minds.

In the above creation you can see my artistic interpretation of Heidegger’s powerful description of this Übermensch, namely the combination of the Gnostic Christ (Jung) and the Caesarian warrior.

  1. The Gnostic Christ: the Gnostic Christ is a solar divinity who has nothing to do with the magian ‘Jesus’ or the dogmatic Christ of the Church. The Church did not and would never comprehend the Gnostic and thus pre-Christian origin and value of Christ as a symbol of our hidden connexion with the Sacred. Alchemist and mystics such as Jakob Böhme uses the alchemical stone as a metaphor for Christ. The Übermensch is there to show us how to re-connect with the Sacred, how to purify our Soul as it has been poisoned by the productionist metaphysics (Heidegger) and the desacralization of the Evening-land. Like Jung Christ as a solar divinity is there to honour Sol, the Fire, the Light, the Libido and the Vortex of Life (Will to Power). The Gnostic Christ symbolizes the spiritual importance of our Collective Unconscious, and the figure of Christ can thus be compared to Baelder, Mithras, … Central to the Worship of these divinities is the Cult of Sol and the praxis of pre-Christian solar hymns.                                     Bataille‘s view on the figure of Jesus is of importance as well. “Christianity valorized the poor, the pariahs, the unclean. It put a king into play in the person of Jesus, but the king aligned himself with the miserable. Much more, Jesus let himself be treated as a criminal and reduced to state of a tortured body, identifying himself with the left and most repulsive from of the Sacred.” (Bataille) There is in effect a sinister sacrality while the Church transformed Christ into “an archetype of unilateral power” in the service of their world domination and the destruction of the pre-christian, pagan richness. As a Gnostic Christ is a heretical, sinister figure with regard to the worldly aims of the Church and their vision that man does not possess a sacred origin. Christ’s Soul therefore dwells in the Übermensch.
  2. A Caesar:  The image of a Roman caesar denotes the necessity of such an Übermensch to lead das Volk and it is the personification of an iron Will which will be needed if we want this Caesar to offer us a higher possibility, a superior order. He will have to be merciless because, as Heidegger stated, this Caesar will first bring this technological age to its high point in order to prepare a new age. As a Vindex figure he will have to change this Evening land into a “land of morning” (Hölderlin). Firm decisions will have to be taken by this Caesar in order to overcome the present age in which the old gods have been pronounced dead. Heidegger believed in a new beginning.

This Caesar with the Soul of Christ is a warrior-priest, a Solar Knight (a Sonnenmens – Serrano) that is able to translate ancient Indo-European views and values for a new Europa. As Evola stated:

“It is , however, advisable that misunderstandings do not arise about the meaning which the warrior elements will have in the new Europe, focusing on the word ‘militarism’, similar to those already deliberately fostered – with full knowledge of the facts – by the democratic adversaries. It is not a manner of confining Europe to barracks […] it is necessary to become well aware that specifically warrior values, in the military context, are only representations of a reality which, in itself, can have a higher, not merely ethical, but even metaphysical meaning.” Evola continues to stress that the new Europe will not be formed under the sign of a warrior spirit that equals a chaos of unleashed forces and instincts. The Übermensch is not just a fighting machine, as the “true warrior ideals implies not only force and physical training, but also a calm, controlled and conscious formation of the inner being and the personality. Love for distance and order, the ability to subordinate one’s individualistic and passionate element to principles,…” (Evola, Metaphysics of War p. 113 – 114)

These virtues can also be found in the practice of the Numionous Way (D. Myatt)

The Roses in my creation refer to the alchemical emblem of the seven-petalled rose. This is an allogory of the seven planets, the seven stages of the transformation (cfr. the Seven-Fold Way). The formula ‘per crucem ad rosam’ (through the cross to the rose) describes this spiritual transformation of Western man. Jung writes that the essence of the heavenly Sol descends into this flower which is the earth’s answer to the Sun’s countenance (Jung). The Übermensch as seen by Heidegger exemplifies this spiritual path and can function as your inner guide of transformation. Let us listen to the wise words of the mystic Serrano  

The Rose is a creation of Persian alchemist gardners. It has to do with Sufism. Frederick II’s Rose came from the East. The rose flowers on the joining point between the vertical and horizontal of the cross. The vertical is the masculine; it is the sky. The horizontal is the feminine; it is the earth. The Rose joins them and opens the way to Magic Love, of the Mysterium Coniunctionionis, of the Tantric Maithuna. Then, the extremes of the cross light up and it is the Red Cross of the Templars. It begins to turn vertiginously and transforms itself into the Left-Turning Swastika, the Return’s, a circle of light that is not solar, but uncreated light, light from Venus, light from the Pole, from the most distant midnight. The Swastika, thus, is not a symbol of the present sun, but of the Pole, of motionless movement, of energy at rest.” (Serrano, p. 252) 

Therefore you will find das Sonnenrad with the 12 Sig Runes and the AR Rune in the centre. For this is both an Inner and Outer War; an alchemical journey from the Light of Sol to the uncreated Light of the Black Sun. The Übermensch as Warrior-Priest encompasses both the Strength as the Wisdom that is needed to go beyond our present technological aeon.  Instead of being addicted to figures, facts, research, science we should ‘let things be’ (become acéphalic) and leave it up to the energies inherent to Being. There is need of rank, order and meaning and True Art, True Alchemical flowers grow because of these boundaries and they manifest themselves for the human being is nothing but a modest vessel.

We are connected with the Numinous but we must learn to appreciate it once again, but I am most confident that we are most capable. The Übermensch will guide us!
