Agios O Vindex

img_9499

A few days ago V.K. Jehannum published an intruiging post with the title ‘There is no Vindex‘. As always a well researched blog post which challenges the reader and confronts him with suppositions which have not been questioned, such as the background of the Vindex archetype. V.K. always delves deeply into the particular history of the occult symbols and therefore frequents various sources. Our Acéphalic Weltanschauung is grounded in the mysticism of Georges Bataille, Traditionalism, Hermetic mysticism and the Sinister Tradition of which the ONA is one of the most exemplary emanations.  Therefore Vindex is one of the most important Archetypes to us.

The central question V.K. Jehannum poses here is why the creators of the ONA highlighted  the connexion of this Archetype with the historical figure of Gaius Julius Vindex. As pointed out by V.K. the description used in the original ONA MSS is none other than the historical description of Gaius Julius Vindex:  “[Gaius Julius Vindex] was powerful in body and of shrewd intelligence, was skilled in warfare and full of daring for any great enterprise; and he had a passionate love of freedom and a vast ambition” (Cassius Dio, 63.22.1-2).

This historical connexion with Gaius Julius Vindex does not come as a suprise to me for it has always been clear to me. The Latin word ‘vindex’ has an imperial connotation: defender, protector, avenger and in my personal research many years ago I stumbled upon Gaius Julius Vindex. The question is why did the founders of the ONA choose this name.

  1. First of all, there is the Latin meaning: defender, protector, avenger. The last term has definitely been used to refer to the antinomian essence of Satan. Within the Sinister Tradition is Satan the Adversary, the Dark God that challenges the status quo, the ruling order for this particular order, the current Western aeon, has been superimposed upon the strong, the ones who live according to a master morality. Satan is the Shadow Aspect and as the embodiment of the Will to Power he keeps the Wheel of Life spinning. Satan represents none other than the chtonic and heterogeneous forces that are able to destabilize the current hegemonic order.
  2. An important aspect of the Weltanschauung of the Sinister Tradition is based on the organic nature of civilizations (Spengler). The Magick of the Sinister Tradition is not only a personal one, but the Magician also operates on an aeonic level for in the end the scope of the Sinister Tradition lies beyond the current status of humanity and beyond Eorthe. Not just a simpleminded destruction but a trangression by building upon the rich Tradition of our forefathers and of the West. Its current degeneracy leaves us no other choice than to hold on what is still intact, what is still Traditional (ancient values, knowledge, aural and written folk traditions), cherish those treasure and strive towards the Stars. This means that the Archetype of Vindex, as a defender/protector of the ancient values/knowledge/traditions is a more than fitting one. The historical figure of Gaius Julius has its historical significance: Gaius Julius Vindex was a rebel and he wanted to dethrone Nero whom Gaius saw as an unworthy Emperor. Instead of seeing him as a ‘sovereign’ Gaius called him a ‘harpist’. The notion of sovereign is very dear to me: Bataille regards emperors, the aristocracy, madmen, mystics, … as ‘sovereign’ because they fight against the status quo, they embody sinister aspects which are not compatible with the status quo. I can imagine that Nero’s rule did not please Gaius Julius Vindex. Therefore the archetype of Vindex is very well chosen. The word associated with Vindex is ‘opher’. One must rise about the selfish concern typical for mundane behaviour. True Magic lies beyond oneself and just like Gaius one must be prepared to sacrifice oneself in order to prepare the Aeon of Fire.

Of course, it is a known archetype: the Wotan archetype, the archetype of the warrior, the champion warrior / warror caste can be studied in the writings of Julius Evola as well. Beside that there is Kalki (Hinduism), the Gnostic Christ of the Rosicrucians. These figures are warriors, mystics, prophets who oppose the ruling System because it has betrayed ancient and eternal values. These ‘defenders’ stand for a timeless tradition of the Sacred.  Bataille himself called upon antinomian, heterogeneous forces. The Bataillean figure of the Acéphalic man is a sort of Vindex figure as well: leading the rebellion with the heart and not through ratio (headless). The Vindex figure is therefore neither a hoax nor propaganda, as we are talking about the changes on an aeonic schale.  We need such a mythos in the present technologcial times as it keeps our head fresh. The antinomian power of the Vindex mythos should not be underestimated.

Another important source I would like to refer to is Metaphysics of War by the mystic Evola.  He devoted a chapter to the Roman conception of Victory which is very interesting in this respect and demonstrates how the Romans “believed in a meeting and mutual interpenetration of divine and human forces”. For the ancient Roman the manifestation of the Sacred, the Divine was “to be found in time, in history, in everything which is carried out through human action”. The importance of a mystical counterpart was important to the Romans and this leads us to the conclusion that Vindex’ rebellion against Nero, who had betrayed ancient Roman values through his decadence, is a mystical rebellion, and thus honourable. This intensfies and consolidates the Archetype of Vindex even more. Evola refers to the Samurai as well by explaining the Roman concept of devotio, what we would call ‘tragic heroism’. It was a warlike ritual action in which the sacrifice of oneself was vowed “and one’s own life was dedicated consciously to ‘lower’ powers, whose unleashing was to contribute to bringing victory.” Committing ritual suicide is not mentioned here but like the Samurai I can imagine that devoted imperators such as Gaius Julius Vindex committed his own death for the sake of victory. His army may have been defeated, his action did start a revolution against Nero whose suicide is nothing but cowardly. Vindex’ revolt was therefore a Traditionalist one and most mystical. So, I would say the historical reference is accurate and implies further thought.

I find the reference of Evola to ‘lower’ forces particularly interesting as it has a most Sinister-Numinous connotation: summoning chtonic forces by certain ritual acts of war. Hermetically and acéphalically speaking we can say that the Vindex Archetype is the Solar rebirth after the chaotic phase of the Nigredo. The Vindex Archetype brings the defeat of a cancerous society and order by a courageous Self-Sacrifice. To embody this Archetype demands courage, sacrifice, devotion, true nobility, and not te be forgotten humility. The Archetype is the antidote of self-deification which I regard as one of the most festering diseases in the occult world. It is not about ‘becoming a living god’ but about a warriorlike and mystic devotion to  a higher standard in the service of the Sacred.

The Destroyer: Apollyon

“They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon.” (Revelations 9:11)

Drawing from Abaddon (Source: Le Prince de ce Monde)

In Revelation 8–9, the apostle John describes the announcement of the apocalyps when the angels sound seven trumpets. Each of these trumpets signals the coming of a new judgment on the people of Eorthe. John describes that when the fifth angel blows his trumpet, the Abyss will open, and unleash a horde of demonic “locusts” on mankind as a punishment (Revelation 9:1-3). God will grant these creatures the power to torture any person who does not bear God’s seal (verse 4). The pain inflicted will be so severe that the victims will wish to die (verse 6). The ruler of the Abyss is Abaddon or Apollyon and he is the king of these demonic locusts. (https://www.gotquestions.org/Abaddon-Apollyon.html)

The Swedish entity Irakallian Oracle has transmitted unto us mortals a message from Apollyonthe Destroyer of those believers not bearing God’s Seal; the King of the Locusts. In my dictionary of demons, Le Prince de ce Monde, Apollyon is personified with Death: as Apollyon he stands for “Death, Devastation, Desolation, Famine and Extermination”. Abaddon should be evoked on Friday and should be visualized as a beautiful naked woman, with the claws and the head of an eagle (see drawing).

Cover from Apollyon – design by D. Herrerrias

In the occult vision of Irakallian Oracle Apollyon is depicted as a holy flame, and this flame symbolizes “beauty understood as Destruction” (IO). And this Destruction will infect the whole universe.

Wihin their vision man is blinded and put to shame by the sheer power of the Infernal Svn as it distorts his visual senses. Just like Bataille’s Solar Anus the Infernal Sun of IO offers no wisdom, no solace, no allevation of mundane discomfort because it represents “aimless contemplation”. Man is simply dumbstruck by this celestial Inferno and his limited ratio is totally blurred. In other words, man has lost head and in this acéphalic condition he cannot resist the sheer attraction of the exploding Sun belching out an ongoing flux of energy. This Abysmal Svn, sent from the underworld (Irkalla), “appears as a monstrous oracle”, and the speech of this oracle is not to be understood.

Here we have a most monstrous depiction: this oracle brings no answers, and its “thoughtless word is made flesh”. Beyond ratio, beyond our limited capacities, the sorcerer is left clueless and struck by lightening. Bataille’s Mysticism did not seek any ‘unio mystica’ either for the Sacred / Numinous is beyond our capacity. We must admit our tragic finiteness (Nietzsche) and our Sein-zum-Tode (Heidegger), yet true devotion, ritual, meditation, respect and humility we can become Nexions and thus find ourselves in union with the Acausal. Not to find answers to our mundane desires or lusts, but in a moment of pure transgression (Bataille) in which we can find our way back to richness of the pre-modern societies.

IO does not provide answers and they do not claim to. Their vision has uplifted Apollyon from a magian demon to a Destroyer beyond the reach of man. Just like the Dark Gods of the Sinister Tradition these acausal entities are not at our mundane disposal.

This is a Dark Grail offering no comfort, but only bewilderment and chaos. After the Death of God there was only a Void left, and this is a central concept as it is reflected in the name of IO: an oracle within the Void where only the Sacred Silence can be heard and the whispering of tongues unknown to man. In the Void’s Beauty one finds no ‘creation’ but only utter destruction.

IO has transformed Apollyon, from the original setting of the magian God who rules mankind, and who bestowes punishment upon them, into an Alchemical entity. Apollyon is no longer an instrument in the hand of this false magian god, but he has become his own judge. He is no longer some demon from an ancient tradition, but his virtue has been alchemically and artistically translated.

The importance of Alchemy is clear if one looks closely at the beautiful cover created by the esoteric artist David Herrerias.  As the nameless vocalist of IO explained in an most interesting interview with Bardo Methodology the artist drew “a mummified corpse going through the alchemical process of ‘nigredo’, or ‘blackening’ – a state where one is cleansed of emotion and thoughts; purged of the chaotic impurities that constitute our regular state of consciousness.” The Nigredo is the first stage of the Alchemical Opus which confronts the Alchemist with his conflicting emotions, feelings, urges, and the Black Svn rules over this chaotic and desolate phase. This is a phase of fruitful destruction and a period of ritual cleansing and introspection. The confrontation with the Abysmal Svn is nothing less leaving behind all hope and security. The Alchemist’s journey through “Irkalla’s self-less lands” is a most harsh one but it prepares one for the darkness of God:

“I said to my soul, be still, and let the dark come upon you

Which shall be the darkness of God.” (IO)

The Acéphalic Weltanschauung offers no Salvation either. The Darkness of the Bataillean Nothingness is eternal, just like the Cosmic. The Acausal offers no safe home, no afterlife, but it invites you take take part in the Continuum.

Leave therefore your humanity behind as you enter the world of the Sacred. Behold the mysteries of the  Abysmal Svn and let the holy flame murder your innocent Soul.

SIR:the pathway to the Sphere of Sol

You have just passed through the Sphere of Love and Ecstacy and this has transformed you into an Empathic Being, a Being amongst other Beings, a Being-with-Others. Look back at the seperatedness from which you suffered on the causal plane. The Alchemical Transformation has slowly, but steadily, beheaded you, and you have left instrumental Reason, reigning the causal plain, behind. This instrumental Reason had fossilized you, and had turned your life and ever-becoming Physis into a ‘dead nature’. From seperatedness to Unity that is thé most principle transformation one must go through. As you continue to travel through the Spheres, the esoteric doctrine of the seven points, “higher powers enter into the corporeal context, whereupon they become vital currents and energies specific to man” (Evola). This process (realisation of Wyrd) has the meaning of a “ressurection, palingenesis, an awakening”. Within the Sinister Tradition we not only regard this on the individual level, but also on a collective level.

Now you have arrived at the solar principle. Listen to the Meditation of Christos Beest:

“…With your lover, by your side,
I put before you, the gold sigil of the Sun. touch it.
You are now entering the dark sphere of Sol.
The swords that cast their shadow, over hateful paradise…
draw back, to reveal mountain ranges,
majestic against a sky, of flame.
You are standing on the edge
of the circle made by nine sacrifical stones.
Here, there is a thick darkness weaved by the unsated fog
and contained by the mountains.
Those roaring obscurers of that which lies beyond!
Illuminated by the glow of putrefaction,
the corpse of your former self,
discarded during transformation, lies in the circles centre.
Witness the repulsive entities that violate and mutilate your corpse!
This sacred shell, is now the prey of every necrophiliac and cannibal!
It seems initially, that they are performing gross obscenities for pleasure,
but, look closer.
The corpse is delicately gutted, and from the bones extracted,
these creatures are constructing a tower, that rises far above the mountain peaks.
Their work finished, they withdraw, bowing to your superiority
and divine disposition.
They light a protective circle of fire around the stones.
This, is the sphere, of vision, understanding, and prophecy.
Accompanied by your lover, climb the bloody bones to the top.
Here, you will see your kingdom,
surrounding, stretching out far into the solar fire, of increase.
See your temples! Your riches! Your works! All in progress…

(Christos Beest, SIR

Behold his brilliance and utter magnificence, and let your Soul be touched and purified by Sol’s fiery tongues:

Gate of Sol

The Gate of Sol (Von Sanngetall, 2003)

From an Acéphalic point of view the meaning of Sol differs from Traditionalism where Solar and Lunar powers are seen as each others opposites. In the Alchemical Tradition the Svn and the Moon are “a fundamental duality” (Evola), and we recognize this in the Sinister Tradition as well: the appropriate workings for the Moon are acquiring hidden knowledge and the Svn stands for Prophecy and Revelations. The Sphere of Baldur as a new beginning, a new start, vision after the destruction of Ragnarok.

Our Sol however also encompasses the infernal and putrefying spirit of the Black Svn. It is also a Svn of Malediction and Putrefaction that shines through the Acausal Swamp.

Our Sol is fundamentally a Gnostic one, because instead of the Traditional view (the Svn producing life, generating wealth, and profit) ours is life-threatening as well. Along with Bataille we cry that He is not just beautiful to behold,  but he represents that which is repugnant and forbidden and thus we refer to the Svn as a “Solar Anus”! “We avert our eyes from the Svn”, notices Bataille as our eyes cannot stand “neither sun, coitus, cadavers and obscurity.” (The Solar Anus).

The Solar tradition emphasizes that the withouth warmth and light life on Eorthe would simply perish. But if you try to look into the Sol you will go blind. This inferal Star “exclusively loves the Night and directs its luminous violence toward the earth” (Bataille). Just like a volcano he is constantly belching out torrents of insane and excrutiating energy burning the retinas from those who dare to stare in the mouth of this celestial volcano. Limitlessly and undiscrimately Sol breathes Energy and only the Night is able to offer us some protection. Through its sheer  luminosity he creates the Darkness where chaos & destruction reside.

In Alchemical terms: after the conjunctio of Sol and Luna the process of Putrefactio starts in the alchemical vessel. This is an important step in your spiritual path as the old has to die first before the new development can start. This is a period of incubation and for the Alchemist this means a period of ‘creative depression’. All Alchemists go regularly through this period and this is also called melancholy. Nowadays people talk about being depressed or suicidal, but as an Alchemist you should know better. This is a period of internal reflection before you pass on to the next Sphere of Mars.

You must bow in awe, and avert your physical gaze from this insanity because you would become blind and go mad. Its awful Greatness lies in its brilliant and burning insanity. This Sphere offers wisdom and vision (Lux being its Logos), but there is no wisdom without madness & chaos. The Black Svn disturbs and confuses our rational mind. What if Giordano Bruno would not have had the vision that the universe is infinite?

This Acéphalic Svn burns away all Falseness, our treacherous Skin and exposes our Naked Flesh to the boning knife of the Continuum. Yes, tell this to every mundane human that  we are being exposed to our burning Apocalypse. This is the Opher demanded by a true Religion. Then only then, after thise rise of the Black Svn and the rise of the putrefying era, the Age of Brutalism, will our Vision, Understanding and Prophecy be pure again. Amen!

For those that wish to experience the terrible beauty of the Inferanl Svn I like to refer to the occult creation of Irakallian Oracle. I will go deeper into their Black  Art in a next blog post. Their second album, Apollyion, presents us the gospel of the Infernal Svn.

The Acephalic invocation of the Dies Irae

img_8894

Painting: Dies Irae by Jeroen Bosch (1508) / Design: The Acephalic by Von S (127 yf)

What you are about to read, is based upon A. Crowley’s Gnostic Mass. I have taken the liberty to focus on his Ceremony of the Introit in order to write this Acéphalic Ecclessiae Gnosticae pt. 1 through which the Dies Irae or the Day of Wrath is being invoked.

My Acephalic Mysticism is based upon Bataille’s occult Weltanschauung which is partly Gnostic (the Sacred as the omnipotent Ur-Grund of Being itself and the Acephalous gods that reside within the Ur-Grund). Bataille founded a secret group, L’Acéphale, and besides publishing its own journal, Bataille and its member also performed secret rituals. Bataille himself had been practising meditation and yoga for quite a while then. Nevertheless, he never completely focussed on the future of mankind, or the possibilities beyond rediscovering the Sacred. His Acephalic programme, which you will find as part of this ritual, seems to hint at the destruction of the present world order and a new one to come, but soon after this, Bataille dissolved his esoteric group, Acéphale, and focussed on the political and philosophical. He abandonned his occult interests and gained interest in art and the like, which was refreshing as well and I intend to come back to that later. But now I want to pay attention to Bataille’s Gnostic interest. Now, besides Bataille the writings of the Ministry of the Abyss have been inspirational as well.

With regard to the further devolopment of Mankind my original and main source of inspiration lies with the ONA.

The Acephalic Ecclessiae Gnosticae pt.  1: The Ceremony of the Introit

Of the Officers of the Acephalic Mass

The Priest. Enters the Temple with a gold plate on which freshly disembowled intestines[1] have been placed, and he is adorned with an imperial sanguine robe on which the mystical symbol of the Acéphalic is embroidered with gold thread.

The Priestess. Her bodily presence evokes both the most celestial and the most base: born from Eorthe and raised in the Cosmic. Elegantly she strides with high heels and with the snakelike look of a sexual predator she flirts with the gods themselves. She is the Mistress of the Earth. Between her beautiful breasts an inversed septagram is tattooed and it is encircled with the Symbols of the Seven Spheres for she symbolizes Temptation of the causal and Transgression towards the acausal. She is a portal in the flesh towards the most exquisite forms of torture and infinite Wisdom gained from it. The Priestess is clothed in white, black and red leather. Not only does she bear the Sacrificial knife from a red girdle, she holds the burning flame in her hands. The Flame of Destruction and Warfare. The Flame of mankind’s hidden divinity and his Cosmic destiny. It is the Flame which will consume man as he tumbles into the Abyss denoting the loss of all logical knowledge. The Priestess embodies the rebirth of the Sacred after centuries of Magian dominion. Then and only then will  the patriarchal system come to an end.

The Deacon[2]. He is a beautifully muscular man with a godlike body. Sculpted as if it were by the Greeks themselves.  He is a true representative of a newborn Warrior caste and a product of Spartan upbringing and a most rigorous life style of positive asceticism and individual discipline. He is dressed in his splendid nakedness but he wears a mask to emphasize his non-identity. As an Acéphalic Warrior he belongs to the caste and his Wyrd coincides with the Greater Wyrd. His body is painted with gold for he appears like a radiant Sun. His member is erect for the Deacon is meant to symbolize the Phallic and Potent Solar God[3]. His whole body is shaven for he takes pride in his perfectness. Because of holy circumcision his shining scarlet glans compels admiration and invokes sheer animalistic lust. Against his abdomen he carries a magnificent human skull set with black and purple diamonds and this Skull symbolizes the finiteness of Life and celebrates the coming of Holy Death.

As he places the holy Skull on the altar, the congregation sings:

                              “Satan, thou Eye, thou Lust!”

                              “Satan, thou Eye, thou Lust!”

                              “Satan, thou Eye, thou Lust!”

“Agios O Satanas, Agios O Satanas.”

Then the Priestess takes the floor and adresses the congregation in a loud and defiant voice:

“I wish to demolish and subvert classic, so-called immortal values, burden you with a sinking feeling, a feeling of disgust, self-hatred. I wish to dismember and torture all dogmatists who claim to speak and uphold ‘the truth and nothing but the truth’. I know it’s hard, very hard, if not impossible to be an iconoclast after centuries of groundbraking philosophies and art movements, but in my attempt to subvert the immortal values I will be ferosciously religious. This is without a single doubt one of the most rigorous Jihads ever conducted.”

At her command the Priest continues:

“Listen to our acephalic programme. The Programme of the Abyss, Eorthe and the Cosmic.

1.      I assume the function of destruction and decomposition, but as an accomplishment and not as a negation of being (Bataille).

2.      I take upon myself perversion and crime, as values integrated within the human totality (Bataille) but demolished by the present ethical standards.

3.      I fight for the decomposition and exclusion of all communities based upon egalitarian, democratic, churchly and patriarchal values. I commit myself to all aristocratic, headless and matriarchal multiplicities that aim at subverting and disrupting the present Order.

4.      I affirm the inequality of men and the organic character of society. (Bataille) I affirm those few exceptional beings that have been able to sip from the Well of Infinity, and who have witnessed the creative maelstrom of the Limitless Void.

5.      I wish to take part in the nuclear (my emphasis) destruction of this ‘imperfect and cruel’ world, with my eyes OPEN to the Galactic Imperium to come.

6.      I affirm the value of (artistic) violence and the will to aggression insofar they invoke the darker forces of the Abyss.

7.      I prefer forces to form, ideas to representation (Artaud).

8.   I wish to initiate a new black period, an epidemic of plague: a world of new controversial ideas, übermenschlich in scope and most cruel in practice. Subjecting man to unknown and dark rites by invoking the Abyssal. I say this to you: this will be an epoch of dismemberment, disfigurements, a breaking down of existing forms, a melting down of everything solid and returning it to the primaevil slime. The madman Artaud talked about an « unheard degree of putrefaction and petrifaction » to which the plagueridden human body is subjected. This must become a universal condition, a cleansing of Eorthe and a devotion to the Void.

9.      In the wake of Artaud we deny the culture of reason as the sole mode of representation of the human psyche. Man’s “taste for crime, his erotic obsessions, his savagery, his fantasies, his utopian and distopian sense of life and of things, even his cannibalism” (Artaud) is what we hold dear.

10. There can be no Truth, there is only Cruelty.

11. These are Rites of happiness and joy … Joy before Death” (Bataille)

With these words and antinomian benedictions the Priestess proclaims the advent of a transitional period. A Sinister one celebrating mundane antinomian behaviour to the point of no return, being the Day of Wrath. The Mass announces this grand day, the Dies Irae and therefore the Priestess commands the congregation to sing in honour of this:

Listen: Dies Irae: performed by The Monks Of The Abbey Of Notre Dame.

When the last notes of this beautiful, sinister musick reverbaerate in the Temple the Priestess commands the congregation:

“Greeting of Eorthe and Cosmos! The Aeon of Fire is upon us. Let us prepare for this Holy Day of Wrath. The Acephalic One will reign must supremely and without pity. Let the Orgy commence.”

“AGIOS O SHUGARA! AGIOS O SHUGARA! 333! “

Von S, 127yf

Footnotes:

[1] The intestines on the drawing of Breton symbolize the labyrinth.

[2] After the Ritual the Deacon will be subjected to a merciless and above all perverse orgy. As the perverse solar Deity he will be penetrated by the Priest, the dildo wearing Priestess and all males present in the Church. He will enjoy the penetrations as much as he will enjoy the seed that is ejaculated in his face. The act of Sodomy unleashes all the dark erotic passions that have been suppressed for ages. There is no procreation, just the act of penetrating the willing solar anus of the Deacon. This is based on antinomian Tantric practices.

[3] For the Traditionalists the Sun symbolizes Purity, a homogeneous source of light and clarity which is to be worshipped. Bataille however regards the Sun as a heterogeneous source of excessively pouring energy; an never ending volcanic eruption. An image of the Sublime for it cannot be captured, controlled, tamed. Staring directly into the Sun is impossible, and hurts the eyes most excruciatingly because its blinding heat burns one’s feeble retina. Surely the Sun is a symbol of life and warmth, but that is only the fact because our earth is at a serious distance of the Star of Hell. The Sun gives and gives relentlessly and has shown before to destroy rather than stimulate growth. Thanks to the ozon layer its harmful radiation is being filtered, but today’s hothouse effect shows the Sun’s enormous power. Bataille therefore inverts the traditional solar metaphor (clarity, insight, stability, progress, knowlegde, claritas) and turns towards the other.
