The Acéphalic community

481135_10151152107320701_812420336_n

We must keep in mind the following acpehalic points of Bataille’s Programme drawn up in 1936. An important periode as the Great Depression ruled Europe and many intellectuals were dissatisfied with the parliamentary democracy, the industrial revolution. The Conservative revolution in Germany was the strongest outburst of dissatisfaction, but Bataille also shared a number of ideas. We must keep in mind though that Bataille did not seek for the birth of a new ‘political’ movement, but his Weltanschauung certainly had a return to the Sacred in mind for the West.

 1. Form a community, creative of values, values creative of cohesion.

2. Assume the function of destruction and decomposition, but as an accomplishment, and not as a negation of being.

3. Realize the universal accomplishment of personal being in the irony of the animal world and through the revelation of an acephalic universe.

4. Take upon oneself perversion and crime, not as exclusive values, but as integrated within the human totality.

5. Realise the personal accomplishment of being and its tension through concentration, through a positive asceticism and through positive individual and collective discipline.

6. Fight for the decomposition  and exclusion of all communities socialist, nationalist, communist or churchly.

7. Affirm the reality of values, the resulting inequality of men, and acknowledge the organic character of society.

8. Take part in the destruction of the existing world, with eyes open to the world to come.

9. Affirm the value of violence and the will to aggression insofar as they are the foundation of all power.

Meditate on these words and incorporate them in your Sacred  Weltanschaung. Today’s ultra political correctness and cheap leftist anthropocentrism has turned many of these statements into negative, forbidden and in-human principles. Yet our mysticism is of a Nietzschean kind: tragic, organic and true to the Eorthe, vibrant, the affirmation and destruction of life, truly human, un-relentless, poetic & mythological.  These statements are of an ultimate aeonic importance as they lay the foundation of a possible new Western world / civilization to come. One we cannot envisage or practically aim for, but we need to be reminded of a possible Return to the Origin of the West: the Greek bewilderment. This present World cannot be our aim as it would stifle our actions, but we must always remind ourselves of our Gnostic origin and the discontinuous state of Being.

As Christos Beest (ONA) once explained the ‘earthing’ of acausal, Numinous forces is done by adepts and initiates of the Sinister Path, by warriors, poets and artists, and thus ‘earthing’ is laying/preparing the esoteric foundation of a new world to come.

Like Bataille we want to cultivate and re-instate the Sacred again and we genuinely believe in the need of an elective headless (anarchic – Jünger) communities in order to unleash the Numinous forces again. Bataille referred to these “as a secret society, network” or even an “order” in the truly religious or initiatory sense. Such communities were/are the setting for the examination of and experimentation with “truths that lacerate, which absorb those to whom they appear and is even animated by a movement which distances from them.” (Irwin, Saints of the Impossible, p. 19). The idea was to corrode the wider society through the sacred energies embodied by the community focused on figures of Death (our Sein-zum-Tode) and beyond any instrumental logic.” Acéphale had no explicit ‘political’ agenda, no goals beyond this one: “Existence, that is to say tragedy”. Our prophet aimed at a shattering of the “principle of the head” as all revolutions have historically lead to just another tyranny (one “head”) based on mundane and worldly power.

The “head” so to speak sucks up all the blood, all the vitality of the society, and therefore paralyzes all vitality, creativity by turning it into an obedient, lifeless servility. One must not forget that a society, a community is an organism just like our bodies and the blood needs to flow freely through the organism. There can only be a ‘leadership’ in the occult sense: those who have been initiated and gone through several ordeals. Their fearless and harsh leadership is beyond the need for power or domination, as they have transcended hubris. They are devoted to the collective and its numinous connexion.

Such communities, like the Nexions of the Sinister Tradition, genuine monastic orders exist beyond the mundane realm. Of course, they participate in ‘mundane’ actions such as taking care of and protecting each other, educating each other, making dinner, growing vegetables and so on, but all in harmony with their natural surroundings. These actions have become Numinous and therefore ‘reason’, as promoted by the Enlightenment and positivist science, has been left behind. These Acéphalic communities are not ‘managed’, but they are alive, they thrive from the blood energy of their member who remain faithful to ancient traditions and to the land where they have grown up. Therefore according to Bataille: “The formation of a new structure, of an ‘order’ developing and seething through the entire earth, is the only real liberatory act – and the only one possible.” (Irvin 20).

Like Bataille we genuinely are fed up with the inertia (still present) of the West, and we are dissatisfied with the instrumentalism that dominates the hegemonic Weltanschauung and so, poetic-ontologically, we have no choice but to think of alternatives. Today, orders such as the Order of Nine Angles, the remaining medieval monastic orders, occult groups with a Pagan Weltanschauung, Traditionalists all carry with them the everlasting flame, Pneuma of the Deus Absconditus. The life forms that are (being) established by them form that very alternative. As the West is slowly dying, infested by its own corruption and greed, these communities (even when they come and go) are the sign that alchemical gold grain of the West is not lost and still fertile.

The Joy before Death: our eleven acts of sovereign aggression

temporary-8

These acts are based on Bataille’s ‘Les onze agressions’ of his secret group Acéphale. We have adapted some of them as our views differ in some respect, but the core remains Acéphalic, Sovereign and Anti-Human.

What do we affirm?

  1. Chance & superiority – as a shield against the platitude of the plebian masses!
  2. A collective & strong unity with a Sovereign leader – as a shield against the falseness and the hubris of the modern ‘individual’!
  3. An elective & mystical blood community – as a shield gainst a ‘community’ based on mundane and egalitarian interests!
  4. The religious power of the relentless gift of the tragic self – as a shield against a military power based on material / emotional greed, restriction & self-preservation!
  5. A dark future open to radical changes and one which destroys all limits as a shield against the impotent ‘will’ to maintain the status quo!
  6. The tragic violator of the Law as a shield against compassion with the feeble and powerless victims of this modern era!
  7. Respect and admiration for the inexorable cruelty of Nature as a shield against the degrading image of the ‘good’ god of any monotheism!
  8. Free and mad laughter without limits as a shield against any reasonable and ‘scientific’ explination of the absurd universe we live in!
  9. A desire for and a genuine thirst for a great Destiny of the West – even the most worse and terrible-  against the abdication to pessimism or fear!
  10. The total absence of moral security and false foundations as a shield against the appearance of stability based on humane values!
  11. The Joy before Death as a shield against the cult of immortality!

What can you learn from this?

1. Never let the mass and its mundane, unimaginative and banal outlook on life dictate your way. Be imaginative and let chance rule your life.

2. Against the arrogance of the individual – the phantasm of individuality: a higher sense of community beyond petty and personal needs.

3. The history of Europe has shown what ideologies can lead to when they become the property of the masses. The Mysticism of the Blood is an esoteric notion and they are not crude, simplistic words. Underneath the vast blackened cosmos we are no-thing-s; thrown onto this planet left with our imagination. We must remain true to this Earth: bounded by the actual flesh that rots way and becomes one with the Prima Materia, the darkest of all soils. We need a selective order, a new aristocracy that is willing to plunge itself headlong into the Abyss.

Elected are those that share a tragic awareness. Memento Mori. Life offers no ulterior purpose but to experience it to the fullest: the Satanic Arts pay tribute to life’s vitalism and our Being-towards-Death.

Study Nietzsche! Study Heidegger!

4. We give our-selves away; a gift for the Other. Tragically as we are human all too human. Why should we – as a human species – try to survive? There can be no victory in this Kali Yuga. There is only torment as the Age of Brutalism develops itself.

5. Let’s not dwell in the past. Let us learn from the past. Our great traditions, but we must be willing to leave them behind as the Solar Outburst destroys most of life on Earth. The Future demands ever-becoming creation. Become energy! Become forever!

6. Monotheism has installed the Law, and one should aim to trangress it. This is a confirmation and a charge at the same time. Boundaries are there to be crossed. The Black Arts have always been practised at daggers drawn.

7. We are handed over to the Demiurg, the idle god. Let us accept over fate and be victorious in our futile rebellion. God does not offer any reconciliation for his place is empty and devoid of any hope. At the Left side of the Deus Absconditus, der verborgene Gott the Emptiness awaits us all.

Nature is most cruel and we are one of its most inventive and passionate instruments. Let us celebrate sadism, masochism for we are multi-perverse beings (Freud).

8. Let us not take our-selves too seriously. Consider the writings of Lovecraft. We are powerless in the hands of the Ancients, the Dark Gods, and as we can hear their mad laughter, standing before their altar (Deathspell Omega), we should join them. Their laughter is infectious. Ratio versus non-knowledge. Let us not be scientists, but alchemists of the flesh and the spirit.

9. There is no room for pessimism or fear for these affects paralyse our imagination. A tragic awareness does not hinder one’s creative powers. On the contrary, art for art’s sake, violence for violence’s sake, strengthen one’s resoluteness.

10. The Absence of ground and foundation opens up a multiplicity of possibilities and meanings. We do not coincide with our ‘selves’ because these are fictitious. Lacanian: we coincide with our Desire; it is our ever-lasting Desire that keeps us going. Ideologies offer imaginary resting-places while we should enjoy our energetic nature, the flux of becoming. Acausal becoming as we become nexions for the Dark Gods. Always grow!

11. We have been cursed with a wish for immortality against the Death Drive that truly fuels us. Monotheism, causal gnosticism, luciferianism … despite the formal differences they all promise a release from our gefallenheit. A terminus where we can sleep easily to all eternity. Bataille called Christianity the religion of work for the believer has to earn the remission of sins. While this does not apply to for example gnosticism or luciferianism there is an inherent enmity towards finitude. Instead of experiencing life to the fullest and eagerly accepting its extremes … Joy before Death.

Immortality does not belong to one personally. One becomes immortal by ever-becoming impersonal, by accepting the Void. A return to the Prima Materia.

SIR: the Pathway to Sphere of Saturn

Gate of Saturn

The Sphere of Saturn, Von Sanngetall 2003

After gaining wealth and wisdom in the Sphere of Jupiter, you, the Alchemical traveller, has arrived at the Sphere of Saturn.

Saturn is considered to be the most slow planet as it is the furthest removed from Sol  and from the light. The Alchemical process is a process of inner development (your tripartite essence) and it should be seen as a natural flow depending on the positive or negative influence of the circumstances and the seasons. The period you are in, what you are experiencing at the moment, your successes or losses, these all influence your Alchemical Balance. From the traditional alchemical point of view – which I will explain in another blog post – Saturn stands for melancholy, disruption in your Soul, opposite forces battling within your unconscious. The darkest lead is associated with this planet as it is the furthest removed from the shining gold of Sol.

Saturn, the God of Time, is seen in alchemical drawings using a scythe to cut the first growth after the Sublimatio and the Exaltatio. The growth, symbolised by sun and moon plants is taken care of by Saturn but, as a responsible gardener, he also crops them when it is necessary.  In order to grow one must learn how to lose as well. There simply is no easy success: life as an never-ending development and you must realise that when have gone through the entire meditation, you must abandon all reason, become ferociously Acéphalic and embrace the dark Chaos that Saturn represents.

There is no causal ordening here, no causal project consisting of a nice ending. From within the Chaos starts something new; after Ragnarokr a new cycle commences. Just like the Aeon of the West is in its final stage of the Kali Yuga. Look around you, watch the news and recognise the signs of a dying aeon. Embrace these signs and conquer them with the all-omnipotent Promethean Spirit that is hidden underneath and within.

As Julius Evola explains:

Thus in alchemy we encounter a duplication: Saturn is the “ancient” and the “divine” (or sulfurous) and at the same time it is inverted Gold – lead – as the vulgar body; it is the father of our Stone and that of the Philosophers. […] Boehme explains that Lead and Gold are produced in Saturn by the same power, and adds: ‘It is not death, but an enclosure that represents the divince celestial essence. (Evola 1995: 81)

Melancholy is not about depression, about letting things be but it is about an inverted battle strengthened by one’s Pathei Mathos: what you have experienced and did not kill you, makes you stronger. Reflect, process and act: sinister dialectic at work.

Look closely at the design and let yourself be hypnotized by the fiery rings of Saturn ready to burn away to last remnants of this suffocating Aeon. Melancholy is not a negative feeling as Western medical and psychological science has translated melancholy into the sickness of depression. Depression (created by modern medical marketing) is a sign of utter weakness, instead of accepting the forces of decay ruling the Sphere of Saturn. Embrace the feeling of melancholy for some of the greatest Western creative spirits were fed by it. Do not mind the scythe. Let yourself be decapitated and prepare yourself and your folk for the Galactic Aeon to come.

Vindex est ventures! A new Galactic Ruler is coming!

The words of Christos Beest:

“…Now, before you, is the indigo, sigil, of Saturn. Touch it.
You are entering the seventh and final dark sphere.
You are standing on a hill, beneath a clear night sky.
Directly above is the star known as Naos.
It pulsates, and grows, illuminating and expectant.
The land around is strewn with the burning shards of a dying aeon,
suffused with an understanding that only stillness can express,
when the appearance is burned to ash. And the essence is revealed.
This, is the sphere of Chaos!
You have become all that you have learned
during this journey of self-evolution,
you are the essence of everything.
And via this alchemical process,
you understand, that power resides purely,
in the quality of self-honesty.
With this, you have the choice to alter your life and
the world in whichever way you feel, is necessary.
With this knowledge, raise your arms in exultation to the sky!
Blow winds! Crack the temporal!
See how the sky splits open at your command!
A purple rent, tears its way across the heavens.
Agios O Atazoth!
Black, nebulous shapes, descend from the rent,
to gradually envelop the hill.
The gates, are aligned!
They are returning!
Now, is the New Aeon! Now, is Chaos!
“Vindex! Est! Venturus!”

A meditation on physis and becoming

atu-iii-mistress-of-earth

As I was singing the Sinister Chant dedicated to Jupiter, Agios O Baphomet, I reflected on the dark essence of the Mother of Blood, her sinisterly-feminine Nature. As I was practicing the chant, candles lit and incense burning, a vision of a shapeshifting, Kali-like, feminine divinity entered my mind. I saw her dancing most seductively in the burning rays of a huge giant Svn which was about to outburst like a volcanoe. I literally felt a giant outpouring of Numinous Energy descending upon me, obliterating my-self and the World. In her multiple hands she was holding the heads of men and at her feet I saw the decapitated bodies of her sacrificial victims as she had released them from the burden of their rational, project-minded, instrumental, mundane life, and their Spirit was set free to join the cosmic Flux of life. Our Mother might cruel, but her essence and intentions are the Purest Evil you can imagine. Within the Sinister Tradition Baphomet is being evoked, but of course this dark female principle, this Mistress of the Earth, is also represented by Lilith, Kali, Hecate and so on. The names in these various pagan traditions are merely causal, the essence however is Acausal and thus Cosmic.

Now, as I was meditating on this Essence I was suddenly reminded of one of Bataille’s meditations in which he evokes a dark feminine divinity, and this meditation is called “Méditation héraclitéenne” (Heraclitean Meditation) which he wrote in 1939 for his Secret Group L’Acéphale. He and the other adepts of this Secret Group must have used this meditation as part of their rituals they conducted in the woods. I genuinely believe that texts, meditations, evocations which were written for ritualistic purposes carry within them a certain power. The Words themselves, the meaning as such does not matter, but it is the poetry of the words, their sheer beauty and intent which make them magickal. The text is originally in French and I present you my translation. I am not a professional translator so I may have interpreted some lines, but that does not matter. I did not translate the whole text as I left out small parts (…) which were hard to translate and therefore incomprehensible in English. This is about the intent, the energetic flow within and between the words:

kali

Heraclitean Meditation

(G. Bataille, 1939- my translation)

I am War – I am Joy Before Death

I imagine an inexorable mouvement and an intense excitement – of which the possibilities are limitless – which never calm down except during the war

I imagine a dark female divinity dancing seductively in the Eternal Night, dancing and moving with quiet violence. She is hungry for blood, mutilated corpses and Death.

I imagine the Gift of an infinite suffering, of blood and of corpses (…) This Gift is a huge holocaust burning. A tremendous conflagration of which the eagerness is comparable to the Fire that only burns to devour itself and that has only one purpose: to  devour itself and to burn inexhaustibly. I can only compare this Fire to the dazzling Svn or the distant Stars radiating their unimaginable heat and light.

I can see Eorthe being projected into deep Space and I can compare this to a woman crying out in horror, her hair in flames.

I hate the need for this prolonged stupidity which is the opposite of the freedom of the woman’s Cry. After hearing this cry I lose myself.

This pitiless craving – taken to its most extreme principle by getting rid of this intolerable mask of stupidity  of military endeavours (serving any ideology or other ideas) – demands that I become this Cry and thus I become One with the brase of Life which consumes me until my Death.

With all my powers, and by lifting myself beyond my own nausea, I take upon myself everthing I can of this wretched craving for Life and this will-to-live. This craving makes one’s selflessness impossible and delivers each existence into the hands of Fear.

With all my powers, I consume my own craving to stay alive and the one of my fellow beings as well, in my Joy before Death. And as I consume this craving I feel that I burn hilariously the way the Svn does.

In this world of Summer and Winter, which consistute a dying blaze killing everything that lives, in this ever rotating universe giving itself to the stars which consume limitlessly, I recognize a cruel craving that demands my Death in a most violent manner. She requires it to still her endless consumption and appetite, for her Joy to exist most gloriously. She demands that everything which has ever been, must constantly destroy itself.

 (…)

This philosophical – poetic evocation presents the most important elements of our Acéphalic Mysticism: the Sinister Feminine Essence, Headlessness, mystic Violence & War, the Svn and of course  the Sacred / Continuum.

Bataille also believed in a Continuum, a flux of Energy and in his meditation he refers to the element of Fire. This brings us to Heraclitus and David Myatt.

Heraclitus & David Myatt

In Myatt’s Notes on Heraclitus we find a valuable addition to Bataille’s Heraclitean Meditation.

The phrase Φύσις κρύπτεσθαι φιλεῖ – attributed to Heraclitus – is often translated along the following lines: Nature loves to conceal Herself (or, Nature loves to hide).

David Myatt explains that a central concept of  the philosophy of Pathei Mathos is Φύσις (Physis). Referring to Aristotle Physis not only denotes ‘nature’ or the character of a person, but “physis denotes the being of those beings who or which have the potentiality (the being) to change, be changed, or to develope.” (Myatt). Myatt refers to becoming, growth, a natural unfolding, or as we have mentioned in our latest post: blossoming. Myatt underscores that this is not about some abstract essence, but rather a balance a being should achieve: a balance between what you were, are now and the potentiality that might be. A constant inner dialectical proces that takes place as part of your alchemical growth. Bataille was also intruiged by dialectics and in his meditations he also urges one not to stand still, to get rid of a prolonged stupidty, the mask of stupidity. Myatt calles this Hubris. So, both agree on the fact that one should not strife for some ‘ideal’, but one is constantly in motion.

heraclitus2

For Heraclitus Physis is the “natural being which we tend to cover up” and therefore we are talking about an ontology: “a reality, a true nature”. As Myatt explains in his Notes on Heraclitus:

Thus, Φύσις (Physis) is not simply what we understand as Nature; rather, Nature is one way in which Φύσις is manifest, presenced, to us: to we human beings who possess the faculty of consciousness and of reflexion (Thought). That is, what we term Nature [See Note 2] has the being, the attribute, of Physis. (Myatt)

And further:

Essentially, the nature of Physis is to be concealed, or hidden (something of a mystery) even though Physis becomes revealed, or can become revealed, by means such as λόγος. There is, thus, a natural change, a natural unfolding – of which Nature is one manifestation – so that one might suggest that Physis itself is this process [ the type of being] of a natural unfolding which can be revealed and which can also be, or sometimes remain, concealed. (Myatt)

Myatt therefore concludes that:

One translation is: Concealment accompanies Physis. Or: Concealment remains with Physis, like a friend. Another is: The natural companion of Physis is concealment. Or, more poetically perhaps, but much less literally, one might suggest: Physis naturally seeks to remain something of a mystery. (Myatt)

Physis as this natural unfolding, this growth, this blossoming will somehow always remain a mysterie, something we cannot uncover. There are hidden laws at work. Now, for Heraclitus transformation was “the fundamental principle underlying coming-to-be and the diversity of Nature” (Geldard 2000). Fire became his symbol of creation and dissolution. Heraclitus wanted his students to penetrate the surfaces of the manifest world to comprehend it and “to seek transformation to a higher knowledge of the Cosmos” (Geldard 2000). Dr. Geldard here refers to the further development of alchemy which we will focus on later.

According to Heraclitus we are overwhelmed by our senses and these have “mired us in a banal existence to the detriment of our true nature.” (Geldard 2000)

We must free ourselves from the domination of ideas, ideologies, words, ordinary cycles of existence “in the fire of our consciousness”. The transformation by Fire is highly underestimated! We need to follow a transformative Path, true to Physis, of inner inquiry (the Greek and Roman wisdom, the mystics such as Meister Eckhart, Jacob Boehme, Heidegger, Myatt). Our Fire must be kindled by those ferocious thinkers such as Nietzsche and Bataille. The Ways to follow are causal manifestations and meaningless -isms. In this respect I would like to refer to this excellent text of Acausality.

Choose the Way that strengthens you, that appeals to but always remain true to the hidden essence of Physis. Become a nexion, an affective effluvium kindled by the sacred Fire. May Baphomet, Kali, Hecate, Lilith guide you on your Path.

Agios O Baphomet! Agios O Physis!

Death by a thousand cuts

The Tears of Eros (1961)

In Bataille’s wonderful, and last, book, The Tears of Eros, we can find an overview of Bataille’s art theoretical thinking in a most original manner, namely through images of the works of art he admires. Bataille was a prophet of the Wordless, the Numinous and in his last offering to us, he lets the works of Art speak for themselves. The images (accompanied by small texts) focus on Bataille’s (and our) main spiritual occupation and obsession: the unity of the Sacred, the Erotic and the Aesthetic. The Dawn of a new mythopoeia concerning the resurgence of the authentic Being.

These three ‘human’ categories have offered us a Gateway to the Acausal, to that which remains hidden. In our ‘liberal’ world of Arbeit /Work we are confronted with a corroding spiritual Emptiness as the Rational and Profane Laws nibble at the strength and the foundation of the Religious (religare = to connect with), namely what we understand as the connection with the Numinous. Now, one of the areas that has always been very watchful with regard to erosion is Art. Art “springs at the impulse to  transgress the prohibitions” that constitute, support, the world of Arbeit. Art therefore is able to represent another, a sacred world, “a world of play where people can subject themselves to there deepest impulses.” (Bataille).

In Bataille’s book you find images of the Greek Dionysian rites, medieval painters and artists such as Rogier van der Weyden, Albrecht Dürer, also Rembrandt, Rubens, Picasso, Delvaux, Margritte and so on in order to illustrate the importance of the Erotic and its transgressive, Evil power. The last pages are devoted to what we have already described in the Sphere of Venus, namely ecstasy / ek-stasis: to go beyond oneself, to become acephalic

Voodoo

Firstly you can find some pictures of the South-American cult of voodoo. The voodoo priest is clearly ecstatic, intoxicated by the ritual. This world, says Bataille, “is the world of the blood sacrifice”. Bataille wrote his book for a mainly mundane audience so for them such occult practices were downright shocking, while for those who have been walking the hidden pathways the importance of Blood is self-evident. We agree with Bataille when he writes that the Blood sacrifice opens one’s mundane eyes to another ‘reality’, the one that transcends everyday being, which Bataille calls the Sacred.

The Sacred is not a safe space for the only entrance is through the bloody reality of the Sacrifice. The Sacred does not offer comfort and relief, but it is “confusing” as it seems that a “vertiginous horror and the intoxication” belong together. It is disorienting for the mundane  as “death itself, the sudden entrance of death” is more “overwhelming” than life itself. And Bataille adds: not only overwhelming, but also more “ghastly” (Bataille).

Lingchi

slow-slicing-execution

This oppresive binding of vertiginous horror and intoxication is even more present in the images on the next page of Bataille’s book: the Chinese torture method called Lingchi or death by a thousand cuts. A slow process by which the torturer removed methodically portions of the body over an extended periode of time. This torture was applied in the Mantsjoe-dynasty (1644 – 1911), and it was reserved from specifically severse crimes such as high treason, patricide or matricide.  The photographs date from 1905.

Bataille was given these photographs by his psychoanalyst Borel and they have played an important rol in his life. The most fascinating aspect of this photograph is the ecstatic smile on the condemned’s face combined with an expression of extreme pain. Bataille mentions that he was told that the condemned was administered some opium in order to stay conscious in order to suffer even more. With Bataille we are intruiged by this expression of indurable pain and the ecstatic as these are both expressions of the Wordless and the Numinous. Our vocabulary simply is far too limited to describe and express this.

In 1938 Bataille was introduced to yoga by a friend of his, and the yogic practice offered him the chance to meditate on these photographs by focussing on the expression of the condemned and Bataille says that “the utter violence of this photograph caused an immoderate consternation”.  The unbridled and terrible violence appalled Bataille that much that he became ecstatic and had an inner expertience.

Bataille once wrote that the

“profundity of the tragic artist” lies in the fact that “his aesthetic instinct” affirms the “large-scale economy which justifies the terrifying, the evil, the questionable, and more than merely justifies them”.

The artist, but also, those who travel the LHP cannot focus on temporary, small-scale events/projects, which are the business of the mundane, but one must view things from a larger scale beyond good & evil. Metahistorical, metahuman and so on. In the case of the Chinese being tortured we must not look at human being’s suffering (as a problem), but on the Religious, tragic undercurrent: the fact that such an act opens up terrifying forces. Bataille was not a humanist, but he was intruiged by those processes that transcend the feeble human being. Of course, some would denounce this kind of torture as being inhuman, but the fact is that violence is undeniably part of the Cosmic, and I would say its main drive. Our will-to-power taps into those forces that resonate from the Great Void.

chinesetorture3

Sadism

The smile on the condemned’s face shows the fundamental connection, and UR-connection, between religious ecstasy, eroticism and the inherent Evil. Bataille mentions of course De Sade and Sadism as De Sade would have like to witness such a torture. A Sadist according to Bataille is apathetic, calculated and we agree. A Sadist does not ‘enjoy’ what he does, but he regards himself as a tool, a vessel of acausal forces. The transcendence of his victim into the Realm of Pain and Grief is something that he aims for religiously. It is all a matter of Cosmic energy: no personal joy or gratification but dedication to one’s Wyrd. Liberal media often describe Sadists are as will-less sex offenders, sex addicts, sick people who are to be locked up and treated. Of course, these Üntermenschen do exist. But from a Sinister point of view (ONA, TBO, …) a True Sadist has transcended the Ego and has entered the Sacred where he invites his victims along with him for a “Joy before Death”. A cosmic joy, rapture in front of the Altar of Madness.

Those who are willing to turn away from the mundane world (through their Art, ritual, Way of Life, orthodoxy…) are willing to torture first of all themselves in order to prove their dedication to the Dark Gods, Buddha, God, .. The Nigredo is the stage of the Alchemical Opus in which you are ready to face your inner demons. For Bataille the Nigredo is the mystical Night what he calls “a rustling of radically formless, primordial matter”. This is not a beacon of knowledge, but the most gutteral non-knowledge where a profound transmutation takes place comparable to the gradual dismemberment of the Chinese condemned. This takes place in the Prima Materia.

desade_2786855k

Become therefore your own Sadist, your own torturer. As the Sadist does not serve anyone; he acts like a vessel, a nexion for the Dark Gods, and through his actions the Sadist shows his commitment. True religious behaviour transcends the causal realm, and the smile on the practioner’s face must be equal to that of the condemned of Lingchi. Enter therefore the Night governed by the Sphere of Luna. Meditate on the awesome power of Aesoth as she is called upon for works of Passion and Death. Use the photograph to strenghten your vision and your delirium.

Bataille used the photograph as well but he did not wander the Sinister Path. Anyway his insight that in the (acausal) realm of religious eroticism the horrifying and the religious come together acknowledges the importance of our practices devoted to the Sinister Tradition. At one point Bataille gave up the idea to re-install a Nietzschean religious order based upon blood sacrifice. He knew very well that  there is no religion without sacrifice, without the importance of blood. And this is exactly the point where we re-installed Acephalic Mysticism. The practices of the Sinister Tradition strengthen our focus and incorporate an aeonic vision. The Blood Sacrifice remains the core of a truly trangressive religious experience. Blood must flow; whether this is your own or that from your Victim. Let us therefore die the Death of a Thousand Cuts and always, always with a Smile on our face.

The Sphere of Agape, Eros & Ecstasy

I have just finished my artistic exploration of the Sphere of Venus as part of my intent to symbolize the whole Tree of Wyrd, as a sign of my dedication to the Sinister Tradition.

A lot has already been written about the Sphere of Venus, the astrological aspects of Venus, so no need to copy them. Also the Sphere of Venus has already been described in the Mss of the ONA. There are a few things I have personally added through my exploration of its singular power.

First of all, and part of the exoteric strategy of the ONA, the reference to one of the most ancient symbols of the West, namely the magickal script of the Runes. Specifically for Venus I have drawn the Othala and Fehu Runes.

Fehu

Fehu, of course, as the Rune of Freya, the most powerful goddess of love, war and sexual attraction of the Northern pantheon. Fehu’s energy stands for the Will-to-Power, Sexual power, Feminine and matriarchal Power. The Rune itself means ‘cattle’ and stood for mobile wealth. But I prefer not to pay attention to the ‘materialistic’ connotation of this Rune as materialism is already the main focus in the West nowadays. The Rune’s spiritual power lies however in the energy, the transference from the acausal to the causal through Love/agape, in the ability to feel empathy, to feel connected with your folk around you, good friends, soul mates, between lovers but also the connection with Nature, your Heimat. This also denotes wealth, but a spiritual one. Being, as Heidegger wrote, is always a being there (Dasein) as we are thrown into this world (Gefallenheit) we are here with others and the Other. There is the transference of energy, of experiences which we are building on and how we shape who and what we are at this moment, but always with a higher aim. For those who are able to ‘feel’ Fehu, to feel the green glow of Venus, reassuring yet tantalizing, know that there is something Eternal calling us. As Myatt described this very well: there is no division between us, ipseity is just an illusion and ipseities offer us no answer, no matter how we are longing after definite answers. The Sphere of Venus offers no answer, but its green colour, one of the colours of Nature, can actually soothe us. Not soothing us ‘to sleep’ but actually an awakening, a break-through.

The feeling of  empathy and compassion is one through which we become humble again, (as opposed to the ‘Black Magic’ formulas of becoming gods), and then we are ready to receive the richness from the acausal. The Sinister demands one to go beyond one’s limits and to leave the Ego behind. Just like in the alchemical Opus we have to become a vessel ready to accept without hesitation. The same applies to showing compassion: we can learn to love, to hold on. Agape is a Greek term which refers to such a state of mind and which is far more spiritual than the word ‘love’ that is used nowadays. Agape refers to a state of mind which destroys all illusions and puts us in an unconditional position. Unconditionally religious (religare = to connect). A most orthodox state of mind. Bataille demanded us to be ferociously religious. And we will  not contradict him!

Bataille also referred to ‘love’ and ‘friendship’ as forms of wordless communication, a communication without demands, words, and this puts one in a delicate position almost defenceless. One enters the energetic Continuous where boundaries by definitions no longer apply. When I meditate I open my being-there to the World, and I let go of all my thoughts by casting them aways as illusionary. Agape is for those who are committed to an acephalic path of pure, selfless commitment. The ‘I’ is no longer present, one is devoted to a higher cause, devoted to the happiness of a friend or lover, to the spiritual realization of one’s Wyrd, the Wyrd of the West. A Higher Destiny of which Spengler and Heidegger wrote. Agape is also a Christian term, but one should not be afraid of it, or cast it aside as something ‘un-satanic’ or ‘weak’, for the term goes beyond all morality: to feel connected is a naturalistic essence. It goes beyond ‘good & evil’ and orthodox Christianity (its roots being Gnostic) is well aware of that.

We are all driven by a thrist, a longing, a will-to-power (Buddhist tanha), and we all have the need to satisfy this but let us not focus on that kind of easy satisfaction. Those urges and cravings steer us away from any possibility to inter-connect, to feel the energy drawn from the acausal to the causal.

Othala

The Othala Rune’s energy denotes the spiritual inheritance from our ancestors, our people, the land where we have been raised, its traditions, its folklore, its customs. What can we learn from those traditions that also played an important role in Europe such those of the Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs, Christianity and gnosticism. What can we learn from them? I genuinely believe in an Wordless tradition, a Tradition of the Soul which has been causally transferred through the ages into the Alchemical Tradition of the Great Work. The Sinister Tradition and my particular acephalic path are based on those ancient insights, add new ideas but are loyal to the Tradition.

Now, the Othala Rune exoterically reconnects me to my Heimat, the environment where I have been raised and which strenghtens me to honour those ancients Traditions. Albeit there being different high cultures (Greek, Roman, Arab, Christian) this is not about modern-day multiculturalism. Multiculturalism is only focussed on the causal (food, spice, habits and so on) while an über-cultural Tradition is about the lifting of the Soul, about what Jung referred as a collective unconcious. The Green sphere of Venus can be seen as nurturing that feeling of connecting again.

Another important aspect of the Othala Runes can be traced back to nobilitas, nobility, being noble. And this is an important element if we desire to grow spiritually, to evolve further and further away from the pathetic state of the mundanes in order to realise the Nietzschean Overman. Hence the connection with the Fehu Rune in the Sphere of Venus.

The Wet Path

Alchemically speaking this is the Sphere of Conjunction (in Naos one refers to Coagulation but I cannot agree with this). In the Hermetic Arts Conjunction occurs when a synthesis, a conjunctio occurs of the anima and the animus, the unconscious and conscious, the natural and that which one knows. One must therefore enter the Continuous and start to look introspectively: the Geist must turn towards itself (the inner change of which Myatt writes) instead of always looking at the outside. We must let ourselves be seduced by the Numinous or what Bataille calls the Sacred. Situated in the Sphere of Venus we talke about the Feminine principle, the eternal-Female which has always been honoured in the Satanic manifestation of the Numinous Sinister Tradition. This is quite a revolution as most Satanic ipseities are male oriented, and regard the female as being submissive, to be controlled. In that opinion these paths do not differ from the Magian beliefs they claim to criticize. The Sinister Tradition however is unique because of its utmost respect towards the female. This is based on the Alchemical understanding of the anima and the animus.

The Path of Venus is what is called a wet Path where the practioner is burnt by water. In the wet path of hermetism there also occur sexual symbols. The sexual act can therefore be seen as an alchemical process in which man and woman are united in love. The conjunctio of man and woman is akin to the operation between two vessels:

“the active and passive, the golden force against the captivating and sympathetic wet force that ‘dissolves’ the former and its own ‘enclosure’.  […] ‘Our corpereal gold is as though dead before it unites with its mate. Only then is the secret, interior Sulfur developed’. […] ‘With the Sulfur of Venus, the inner sulfur of man is rectified, reinforced and wholly perfected’.”  (Julius Evola, The Hermetic Tradition)

Death &  Ecstasy

Interestingly, Evola also mentions the fact that the hermetic texts frequently “speak of a death that is a consequence of the coniunctio, of the ‘joining’, perhaps it also refers to the trauma that can occur at the height of the embrace and orgasm if subjected to a deliberate control.” Bataille referred to the orgasm as a ‘little death’ and this is exactly what occurs at the culmination of the sexual act: ecstasy or ekstasis: going beyond of oneself. In this moment of rapture one become headless, acephalic as one transgresses the limits of ipseity.  The Sphere of Venus can therefore be deadly as well and the Dark Goddess Darkat reigns most supremely.

Dragon and the Ouroboros

In Naos one can find the symbol Dragon as being atributed to the Sphere of Venus. I have chosen the Ouroboros as it stands for the endless flux of energy, birth and Death, creation and destruction, and I find these aspects united in the Sphere of Venus. Freya as a Goddess embodies both love and war, creation & destruction. The dragon, often described to Mercury with which Venus is connected, devours itself and recreates and archetypically symbolizes the collective UR-grond of the Life Cycle.  The attribution to Mercury is perhaps more accurate but Venus does possess such maternal qualities as well for the Water, as they element of Venus, also refers to the maternal water from which we are all born. The Mother as a guardian of the Life Force.

We can therefore conclude that the Sphere of Venus has much to offer to the practitioner. Approach it with the utmost respect. Enjoy the sexual rapture & the mystical Death. Become Acephalic!

I summon thee, the Headless One

I summon you, Headless One,

who created Earth and Heaven

who created Night and Day / you who created light and darkness;

you are OSORONNOPHRIS, whom none has ever seen;  you are IABAS, you are IAPOS,

you have distinguished the just and the unjust; you have made female and male

you have revealed seed and fruits; you have made men love each other and hate each other.

These are the first enigmatic sentences of the Rite of the Headless One which was found in the Stele of Jeu the Hieroglyphist in the Greek Magical Papyri, dating from approx. 350 CE. In this post we will be looking at some of the different uses of the term ‘headless’ in mythology and the occult, in order to situate Bataille’s specific use of headless or acéphale. Besides that we will also pay attention to Bataille’s emphasis on certain aspects of this term, namely the Gnostic origin and its overtly Numinous nature.

The Rite of the Headless One

This exorcism rite might have remained unknown were it not that A. Crowley was quite taken by the power of the Rite, and it became his favourite ritual for invoking the Holy Guardian Angel. Crowley used an adaptation (probably written by A. Bennett) and entitled it: The Invocation of the Heart Girt with a Serpent, or The Bornless Ritual.

p-oslo-1-1-magical-papyrus-roll

Remark: interestingly the term ‘bornless’ was used in Crowley’s version instead of the original ‘headless’. In my research and in the excellent blog post ‘Akephalos – The Rite of the Headless One‘ (here you will find more details on the Rite, its history, the etymology and so) it is said that  Israel Regardie made a go of suggesting “In many primitive languages, the word ‘head’ is often used as an equivalent of ‘beginning’ . . .Therefore headless and bornless can be seen as synonyms referring to a deity without beginning.

Headless?

You may ask yourself the question why did they refer to this Deity as being Headless? How was the term headless used in mythology and the occult?

  • Headless beings were known in mythology: various species of mythical headless men “were rumored to inhabit remote parts of the world. They are variously known as akephaloi (Greek ἀκέφαλοι, “headless ones”) or Blemmyes (Latin: Blemmyae; Greek: βλέμμυες) and described as lacking a head, with their facial features on their chest.”

A Blemmyae from Schedel’s Nuremberg Chronicle (1493).

  • Beheading or the punishment of decapitation is an ancient one which had significantly more meaning in Traditional societies (as opposed to our derailed way of living in the Kali Yuga). In ancient pagan faiths executed criminals were rumored to become Akephaloi after their beheading and to roam around as spirits. Celts believed that the soul resided in the head of their ennemies and therefore they practiced headhunting: capturing a head meant capturing the soul of an opponent. This violent tradition is still visible through the ONA with the depiction of Baphomet, the Mistress of the Earth, as a dark violent Goddess to whom human sacrifices were (and are) made. You can see her holding the head of a young man. One of her chosen victims…

Agios O Baphomet, our Mistress of Blood

  • In his interesting blog post Akephalos (no longer available as it seems) the author refers to a possible identity of the Headless God, namely  research done by John Colman, Professor of Egyptology at John Hopkins University and The Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. “He  tells us in The Enigmatic Netherworld Books of the Solar-Osirian Unity, in which he deciphers hieroglyphic content from the tombs of Tutankhamun, Ramesses VI, and Ramesses IX, that Akephalos refers to the Egyptian Osiris, but not in the form of the mummified god of the Underworld – rather as a deity of solar-reunification, Ra-Osiris. Darnell provides evidence, based on archaeological finds and Egyptological research, which shows that the head of the headless form of Osiris is the Sun, and that the solar Osiris is one with Ra.” So, the Headless One is here understood to be the decapitated Osiris. A claim which I have read in other texts as well.

  • The concept of a headless God is however not just literally a question of decapitation, but it refers to its ontology, namely the acausal nature of this God. The Headless One cannot be causally grasped: there is not a single reference to his origin, his name, his representation and this brings us to the Gnostic nature of this particular Deity.  The Headless One should not be seen as a seperate or eminent being, but he is imminent and thus he is the mystical source from which everything and everybody originates (ref. Ecclesia Mysteria). In the Rite however the word ‘created’ is used, and this must be the Christian influence on this syncretic text, namely the Headless One as a creator God. From a Gnostic point of view this would be impossible. The Gnostic tradition refers to the deity as the Deus Absconditus, the One who is absent. Absent as a seperate being, but ontologically everywhere as an imminent presence.

The Headless God as being Gnostic: Bataille’s Acéphale

This brings us to the very core of our Acephalic mysticism: why did Bataille choose a Headless monster (as he himself described it) and headlessness as his main mystical principle. How did he come up with this?

The Acéphale (2013). New version by Denis Forkas (his copyright!) for Behemoth’s The Satanist

You should know that Bataille was a librarian and had access to a vast amount of books and research. In his never-ending quest he encountered old amulets with depictions of Gnostic deities and the Headless One. Being an iconoclast and an anti-modernist he was immediately attracted to the Gnostic Weltanschauung. Bataille’s view is also determined by a profound dualism: the Profane versus the Sacred. Just like Heidegger, Spengler and Evola, Bataille was highly critical towards the ‘modern’ evolution and the profound lack of connectedness: modern man lived in a discontinuum obsessed with their identity and mundane projects. Bataille however regarded the contact with the Continuum/Sacred (Numinous if you will) as a fundamental Being-present-in-the-World, but it was being denied and suppressed in the name of ‘progress’. Unlike the magian beliefs Bataille did not choose to ‘escape’ to another and morally better world, Bataille saw the Sacred as imminent, as ever-present in matter.

foto-bataille

Georges Bataille (10.09.1897 – 09.07.1962)

While Bataille liked the antinomian, heretical stance of the Gnostic currents his interpretation was itself one of the most radical: while many Gnostic sects cursed matter as being the creation of Jahwe, the Demiurg, Bataille favoured matter and looked for the Sacred within matter itself:

“the severed ass’s head of the acephalic personification of the sun undoubtedly represents, even if imperfectly, one of materialism’s most virulent manifestions”. (Base Materialism and Gnosticism)

Bataille here refers to one of the presentations of ancient deities on the amulets and he regards the acephalic God as a virulent manifestation of materialism. Bataille recognizes the Gnostic’s principle of matter as being active and having “its own autonomous existence as darkness and as evil” and evil as a creative action. Bataille actually recognizes his own point of view in the antinomianism of the Gnostics. They were heretical because they did not see matter and evil as “degradations of superior principles” (magian point of view). Bataille realized that not all Gnostics did agree on this as a majority saw matter as a creation of the Demiurg and matter was seen as a prison from which gnosis or insight should free them. There were however antinomian cults that practised evil rituals (sodomy for instance) in order to show that they were liberated from the enslavement by matter.

Bataille however did not see matter as a sin (magian belief) or a prison (gnostic), but he actually located the Sacred in matter. As a practitioner of Tantric sexuality the flesh and matter were something Sacred and therefore Bataille regarded transgressions as a portal towards the Continuum. Nevertheless, Gnosticism did appeal to Bataille:

“it is difficult to believe that on the whole Gnosticism does not manifest above all a sinister love for darkness, a monstrous taste for the obscene and lawless archontes, for the head of the solar ass […]. The existence of a sect of licentious Gnostics and of certain sexual rites fulfils this obscure demand for a baseness that would not be reducible which would be owed the most decent respect: black magic has continued this tradition to the present day.” (Base Materialism and Gnosticism)

Despite the fact that the Gnostic in the end aimed for something good and perfected (liberation from matter), Gnosticism  questioned monotheistic idealism and its practice of submitting matter to the spirit. Through their licentiousness the Gnostics aimed at disconcerting the human spirit and idealism. In the illustrious footsteps of the Gnostics Bataille refused to submit himself and his reason

“to whatever is more elevated, to whatever can give a borrowed authority to that being [he is], and to the reason that arms this being.” (Base Materialism and Gnosticism)

Therefore he submits himself to matter or what he calls base matter:

“base matter is external and foreign to ideal human aspirations, and it refuses to allow itself to be reduced to the great ontological machines resulting from these aspirations.” (Base Materialism and Gnosticism)

Base matter is an important concept in Bataille’s Weltanschauung and indicates clearly that the mystic has no wish to serve any ontological machine. Non Serviam is the central message here. It also shows that, just like the Gnostics, Bataille does not advocate anthropocentrism. In his view matter and energy go hand in hand, and actually the human Geist does not rule them. We can refer to Myatt’s vision about humility, compassion and empathy. Just like base matter the Acausal cannot be judged from a causal point of view. They may coincide, for instance a Nexion, but the Acausal cannot be reduced to anything rational.

I have already described the drawing by Breton. Bataille explains his choice for the Acephalic ‘monster’ as follows:

“Man has escaped from his head just as the condemned man has escaped from his prison. He has found beyond himself not God, who is the prohibition against crime, but a being who is unaware of prohibition. Beyond what I am, I meet a being who makes me laugh because he is headless; this fills me with dread because he is made of innocence and crime; He holds a steel weapon in his left hand, flames like those of a Sacred Heart in his right. He reunites in the same eruption Birth and Death. He is not a man. He is not a god either. He is not me but he is more than me: his belly is the labyrinth in which he has lost himself, loses me with him, and in which I discover myself as him, in other words as a monster.” (The Sacred Conspiracy)

The Acephalic Monster is not here to serve or establish for that reason any hierarchy, nor does it aim at laying down new laws. It headlessness sets him free from the prison of calculated reason, if only momentary because Bataille is well aware that a society does need order and laws. However in order to reconnect with the Sacred, one must be able to escape from one’s head. This is what Bataille calls transgression. The Acephalic One is neither God nor man; he is a monster which can be compared to the Minotaur that roams the labyrinth. Although Bataille’s will to transgress  may seem as a “call for chaos”, Bataille re-introduces the Acephalic One, following the example of the Gnostics, to question the ruling majority, the ontological machines at work crafting ‘our’ reality. The Gnostics challenged the dominant religions with their patriarchy and absolute hierarchies based on reason and logic.

acephale

The Acephalic One however cannot be approached through reason as he resides beyond the Causal, beyond the seven spheres. In the post Azal and the Nine Angles  V.K. Jehannum refers to Azal, a concept in Arabic theology and it is derived from Pahlavi a-sar meaning “without head”. As we have already discussed “without head” could also mean bornless, or without beginning, therefore Azal refers “to an absolute past, an eternity with no beginning. Ergo, Azal would be a suitable descriptor for the realm of Ogdoadic physis which lies beyond the planetary spheres.” Bataille did not put it down in these words, but his interest in ancient practices such as human sacrifice, decapitation, torture with a specific focus on the history of the Aztecs, Gnosticism, Christianity, Satanism and Tantrism shows his anti-modernist stance, and the fact that the past meant much more to him. It is a Continuum beyond Time which he called the Sacred realm, and perhaps we could say that this is what we find in the ONA, namely the realm of Ogdoadic physis beyond the Seven Spheres, beyond the Causal.

Bataille also earthened The Acephalic One by introducing Base Matter. In alchemical terms we could compare this to the Prima Materia which offers the energy to channel and presence the Sacred (or Numinous) in one Causal form or another. The Adept of Acephalic Mysticism searches within the labyrinth of the Prima Materia, and during this search he encounters the Acephalic Monster which has always been present within him, in-the-world, in the Abyss and the Cosmos.

Adam as Prima Materia

Afterthought: Causal, Acausal, bornless…

We can conclude that the Acephalic One must be understood as a formula, a portal which introduces the Acausal within the Causal. It is not a man nor a god, but an entity which cannot be conceived, named, grasped by us, for we stand outside its realm. The Rite of the Headless One was an instrument to Crowley to invoke his Holy Guardian Angel, but would have been useless to Bataille’s Cosmic interests. Bataille utterly despite the instrumental. In the Rite the Headless One is being described as a God being able to undertake causal actions and this makes him a Creator God or a God of Work. The Acephalic One for Bataille is Omnipresent and Absent (deus absconditus) and does not undertake actions: a most sovereign UR-power whose gnosis can only be felt or communicated acausally.

Bataille clearly wanted to avoid a new ‘human’ construct, a new ‘god’ to be worshipped, for he was well aware of the inherent dangers and limitations. For such a God is only the mirror of man’s Ego. Bataille wanted to be ferociously religious: religare; to connect through presencing the Numinous without human intervention and without the trappings of time. I would like to point at Myatt’s text Personal reflections on Some Metaphysical questions (Brought to my attention through one of the posts of the Misanthropic Nexion).  Myatt asked some important metaphysical question with regard to the causal/acausal, the Born-less and our human position. He concludes:

What, therefore, is the wordless knowing that empathy and pathei-mathos reveal? It is the knowing manifest in our human culture of pathei-mathos. The knowing communicated to us, for example, by art, music, literature, and manifest in the lives of those who presenced, in their living, compassion, love, and honour. Germane to this knowing is that – unlike a form or an abstraction – it is always personal (limited in its applicability) and can only be embodied in and presenced by some-thing or by some-one which or who lives. That is, it cannot be abstracted out of the living, the personal, moment of its presencing by someone or abstracted out from its living apprehension by others in the immediacy-of-the-moment, and thus cannot become ‘an ideal’ or form the foundation for some dogma or ideology or supra-personal faith. (Myatt, Personal reflections on Some Metaphysical questions)

In my humble opinion communication is the very keyword here: a wordless knowing which is an understanding beyond reason, an understanding with the heart and without the head. Myatt mentions art, music, literature, a modus vivendi (friendship, love) and operandi (honourful living, Sinister practice- as a means of communicating the Acausal and thus becoming a living Nexion. Furthermore Myatt defends a wordless and timeless (without beginning) knowing (ref. Azal, Dhar & Zamal as concepts of time within Islamic Alchemy) that cannot become the foundation for some dogma or supra-personal faith. Bataille’s quest was different, but he ended up with the same insights.

In this respect Myatt and Bataille agree with each other. They both call upon an acephalic knowing and taking part in the imminent. Both their rites are wordless ones.
