The Sphere of Agape, Eros & Ecstasy

I have just finished my artistic exploration of the Sphere of Venus as part of my intent to symbolize the whole Tree of Wyrd, as a sign of my dedication to the Sinister Tradition.

A lot has already been written about the Sphere of Venus, the astrological aspects of Venus, so no need to copy them. Also the Sphere of Venus has already been described in the Mss of the ONA. There are a few things I have personally added through my exploration of its singular power.

First of all, and part of the exoteric strategy of the ONA, the reference to one of the most ancient symbols of the West, namely the magickal script of the Runes. Specifically for Venus I have drawn the Othala and Fehu Runes.

Fehu

Fehu, of course, as the Rune of Freya, the most powerful goddess of love, war and sexual attraction of the Northern pantheon. Fehu’s energy stands for the Will-to-Power, Sexual power, Feminine and matriarchal Power. The Rune itself means ‘cattle’ and stood for mobile wealth. But I prefer not to pay attention to the ‘materialistic’ connotation of this Rune as materialism is already the main focus in the West nowadays. The Rune’s spiritual power lies however in the energy, the transference from the acausal to the causal through Love/agape, in the ability to feel empathy, to feel connected with your folk around you, good friends, soul mates, between lovers but also the connection with Nature, your Heimat. This also denotes wealth, but a spiritual one. Being, as Heidegger wrote, is always a being there (Dasein) as we are thrown into this world (Gefallenheit) we are here with others and the Other. There is the transference of energy, of experiences which we are building on and how we shape who and what we are at this moment, but always with a higher aim. For those who are able to ‘feel’ Fehu, to feel the green glow of Venus, reassuring yet tantalizing, know that there is something Eternal calling us. As Myatt described this very well: there is no division between us, ipseity is just an illusion and ipseities offer us no answer, no matter how we are longing after definite answers. The Sphere of Venus offers no answer, but its green colour, one of the colours of Nature, can actually soothe us. Not soothing us ‘to sleep’ but actually an awakening, a break-through. 

The feeling of  empathy and compassion is one through which we become humble again, (as opposed to the ‘Black Magic’ formulas of becoming gods), and then we are ready to receive the richness from the acausal. The Sinister demands one to go beyond one’s limits and to leave the Ego behind. Just like in the alchemical Opus we have to become a vessel ready to accept without hesitation. The same applies to showing compassion: we can learn to love, to hold on. Agape is a Greek term which refers to such a state of mind and which is far more spiritual than the word ‘love’ that is used nowadays. Agape refers to a state of mind which destroys all illusions and puts us in an unconditional position. Unconditionally religious (religare = to connect). A most orthodox state of mind. Bataille demanded us to be ferociously religious. And we will  not contradict him!

Bataille also referred to ‘love’ and ‘friendship’ as forms of wordless communication, a communication without demands, words, and this puts one in a delicate position almost defenceless. One enters the energetic Continuous where boundaries by definitions no longer apply. When I meditate I open my being-there to the World, and I let go of all my thoughts by casting them aways as illusionary. Agape is for those who are committed to an acephalic path of pure, selfless commitment. The ‘I’ is no longer present, one is devoted to a higher cause, devoted to the happiness of a friend or lover, to the spiritual realization of one’s Wyrd, the Wyrd of the West. A Higher Destiny of which Spengler and Heidegger wrote. Agape is also a Christian term, but one should not be afraid of it, or cast it aside as something ‘un-satanic’ or ‘weak’, for the term goes beyond all morality: to feel connected is a naturalistic essence. It goes beyond ‘good & evil’ and orthodox Christianity (its roots being Gnostic) is well aware of that.

We are all driven by a thrist, a longing, a will-to-power (Buddhist tanha), and we all have the need to satisfy this but let us not focus on that kind of easy satisfaction. Those urges and cravings steer us away from any possibility to inter-connect, to feel the energy drawn from the acausal to the causal.

Othala

The Othala Rune’s energy denotes the spiritual inheritance from our ancestors, our people, the land where we have been raised, its traditions, its folklore, its customs. What can we learn from those traditions that also played an important role in Europe such those of the Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs, Christianity and gnosticism. What can we learn from them? I genuinely believe in an Wordless tradition, a Tradition of the Soul which has been causally transferred through the ages into the Alchemical Tradition of the Great Work. The Sinister Tradition and my particular acephalic path are based on those ancient insights, add new ideas but are loyal to the Tradition.

Now, the Othala Rune exoterically reconnects me to my Heimat, the environment where I have been raised and which strenghtens me to honour those ancients Traditions. Albeit there being different high cultures (Greek, Roman, Arab, Christian) this is not about modern-day multiculturalism. Multiculturalism is only focussed on the causal (food, spice, habits and so on) while an über-cultural Tradition is about the lifting of the Soul, about what Jung referred as a collective unconcious. The Green sphere of Venus can be seen as nurturing that feeling of connecting again.  

Another important aspect of the Othala Runes can be traced back to nobilitas, nobility, being noble. And this is an important element if we desire to grow spiritually, to evolve further and further away from the pathetic state of the mundanes in order to realise the Nietzschean Overman. Hence the connection with the Fehu Rune in the Sphere of Venus.

The Wet Path

Alchemically speaking this is the Sphere of Conjunction (in Naos one refers to Coagulation but I cannot agree with this). In the Hermetic Arts Conjunction occurs when a synthesis, a conjunctio occurs of the anima and the animus, the unconscious and conscious, the natural and that which one knows. One must therefore enter the Continuous and start to look introspectively: the Geist must turn towards itself (the inner change of which Myatt writes) instead of always looking at the outside. We must let ourselves be seduced by the Numinous or what Bataille calls the Sacred. Situated in the Sphere of Venus we talke about the Feminine principle, the eternal-Female which has always been honoured in the Satanic manifestation of the Numinous Sinister Tradition. This is quite a revolution as most Satanic ipseities are male oriented, and regard the female as being submissive, to be controlled. In that opinion these paths do not differ from the Magian beliefs they claim to criticize. The Sinister Tradition however is unique because of its utmost respect towards the female. This is based on the Alchemical understanding of the anima and the animus.

The Path of Venus is what is called a wet Path where the practioner is burnt by water. In the wet path of hermetism there also occur sexual symbols. The sexual act can therefore be seen as an alchemical process in which man and woman are united in love. The conjunctio of man and woman is akin to the operation between two vessels:

“the active and passive, the golden force against the captivating and sympathetic wet force that ‘dissolves’ the former and its own ‘enclosure’.  […] ‘Our corpereal gold is as though dead before it unites with its mate. Only then is the secret, interior Sulfur developed’. […] ‘With the Sulfur of Venus, the inner sulfur of man is rectified, reinforced and wholly perfected’.”  (Julius Evola, The Hermetic Tradition)  

Death &  Ecstasy

Interestingly, Evola also mentions the fact that the hermetic texts frequently “speak of a death that is a consequence of the coniunctio, of the ‘joining’, perhaps it also refers to the trauma that can occur at the height of the embrace and orgasm if subjected to a deliberate control.” Bataille referred to the orgasm as a ‘little death’ and this is exactly what occurs at the culmination of the sexual act: ecstasy or ekstasis: going beyond of oneself. In this moment of rapture one become headless, acephalic as one transgresses the limits of ipseity.  The Sphere of Venus can therefore be deadly as well and the Dark Goddess Darkat reigns most supremely.

Dragon and the Ouroboros

In Naos one can find the symbol Dragon as being atributed to the Sphere of Venus. I have chosen the Ouroboros as it stands for the endless flux of energy, birth and Death, creation and destruction, and I find these aspects united in the Sphere of Venus. Freya as a Goddess embodies both love and war, creation & destruction. The dragon, often described to Mercury with which Venus is connected, devours itself and recreates and archetypically symbolizes the collective UR-grond of the Life Cycle.  The attribution to Mercury is perhaps more accurate but Venus does possess such maternal qualities as well for the Water, as they element of Venus, also refers to the maternal water from which we are all born. The Mother as a guardian of the Life Force.  

We can therefore conclude that the Sphere of Venus has much to offer to the practitioner. Approach it with the utmost respect. Enjoy the sexual rapture & the mystical Death. Become Acephalic!

On this Friday a new Work in progress: the Sphere of Venus. Attributed to Freya. The strong combination of the Fehu and Othilla Rune. 

Two most noble Runes. Fehu, the life force of Venus, the Will-to-Power, radiant sexuality. Othilla: the Rune of inherited wealth, the fatherland, der Heimat from which the Numinous force grows. 

This will be finished in a day or two.

The Sphere of War

On creating...

As you can see I had not completed my drawing of the Sphere of Mars yet. I thought I had finished it, but unconsiously I knew that something was still missing. As an artist you somehow sense that your creations have not come full circle. So, I added more colour: emphasing the most important colours of the Alchemical Opus: the Black Work (Nigredo), the White Work  (Albedo) and finally the Red Work (Rubedo). As the primary astrological and alchemical colour of Mars is red, the essence of the Sphere / Gate of Mars represents the Rubedo: the colour of our mystical Blood. I now invite to take a closer look at the drawing as I give you some more info on the various elements which I have incorporated and although this is partially a ‘rational’ exercise (drawing upon various sources of information about the Sphere of Mars – departure being of course the Sinister work of the ONA) the drawing completes itself in a most organic way as, for an ‘traditional’ artist like me, Sacred Geometry, Alchemical and Sinister Symbols, the Runes, Europa’s occult history all nourish me so to speak to create something which I hope inspires you and others: rituals, meditation, studying Alchemy, reflecting on Europa’s occult and wealthy past and its future, possible aeonic goals, the richness of Traditionalism, the importance of occult orders such as the ONA and so on.

Unlike many modern artists who feel the need to ‘accuse’, to attack current political issues, to defend certain groups of people, to make their art subservient to social(ist) goals my Art is Nihilistic in a sociological sense. I value Traditionalism, our alchemical quest (personal, as as a people, aeonic) much higher. My Art is not devoted to ‘God’ or to ‘Satan’, but to the Numinous. My path is an acephalic one so I serve no god no particular ideals, but I am inspired by the Greatness of the Past and its current translations and interpretations. At least I hope my work can ‘serve’ as an expression of the Numious. In fact it does not need any explanation at all. Silence, a few candles and staring at it is more than sufficient, but I am also a writer who likes to share the Knowledge he obtained through others and so, it must spread and be continued. We are not academics that need to score but we share our experiences and expressions most freely and without Ego.

And without further ado here are some of the insights  I gathered through drawing this Sphere.

Mars – Ares: protection and destruction

Mars is a powerful Roman god who was associated with war and agriculture. In both areas his function was not that of an instigator, but that of a guard, a god who defends and protects. So, he is not to be seen as a blind ‘evil’ god that destroys for the sake of destruction, but he was called upon in dire times for his strenght and wisdom. The astrological symbol of Mars reflects this, namely it consists of a shield and a spear. Both the spear and the shield were important weapons in combat: the spear used to attack and kill (in close combat and from a distance) and the shield as a means of protection.

Mars, of course, remains the embodiment of virility and masculine aggression for this is the spiritual force, the Will-to-Power, that drives this god, his people and ultimately you. This means that Mars is also capable of savagery and bestiality. There is no room for petty moralism: beyond moral good and evil. This is the kind of Evil Nietzsche and later on Bataille were referring to: a Dionysian Fire. In Greek culture Ares was identified with Mars and Ares personified a most destructive and destabilizing force. Again this should not be interpreted morally/causally because from a natural point of view sheer force cannot never be tamed. Wild animals such as predators, protect the ones close to them, but when needed they can turn into the blood thirsty and fierce creatures they ‘naturally’ are. Therefore it should not suprise you that the wolf, together with the bear, is seen as animal sacred to Mars. Therefore I have included the wolf as well, sharing its energy with you. In ‘Achemical Studies’ by Jung I also found the identification of Mars with Ares by referring to the Wolf (sacred to Ares) as being the animal of Mars.

Tyr and Thurisaz Rune

As you have noticed I added the Tiwaz or Tyr Rune in the centre of the mandala. I have therefore corrected my mistake (referring to the Sphere of Mars as Thorian), as this should be Tyr, the Norse Warrior God, god of the Sword and the Spear. His Rune,  the Tyr Rune, was also incorporated in the Armanen Runen by the mystic Karl Maria Wiligut and it stands for justice, discipline, self-sacrifice: key aspects of the (spiritual) warrior. The Rune exemplifies the sacrifice of the Ego for the well-being of the whole. As a warrior you should never strive for your personal, egocentric glory, but keep in mind that as a Dasein you are thrown into this world and your Gefallenheit should serve a higher, aeonic goal. Seek honour in every act, however small and insignificant, and you shall rise and become part of a sovereign order, one that transcends the limits of the causal.

The Thurisaz Rune will grant you the power, the rough energy as it fuels the Will-to-Power to attain greatness in small things. The Alchemical process of Solve et Coagula will lead you through it, over and over again: a continuous Self-overcoming (Nietzsche). Let us therefore focus on the alchemical essence of the Sphere of Tyr.

Iron and sublimatio

The Alchemical element which is attributed to Mars is Iron. Physical strenght, male energy, weaponry are its important virtues. The transmutation of metals is one of the most discussed topics with regard to the Great Work.

As Evola points out: “alchemy cannot be reduced to chemistry merely in its infancy” thus making it redundant in the eyes of the 21th century scientist. Alchemy remains important as “a traditional science of a cosmological and initiatic character”:

But with diffusion of alchemy through the West these understandings were seperated from the others and lost their true spirit: the desire and greed for pure and simple gold, for monetary gold, became the main interest. (Evola)

It is our Sacred obligation to return to hermetic or traditional alchemy in our quest through the Spheres. Evola demands that we should apply certain principles already known to us in connection with human palingenesis:

Extract the hidden nature within; Make the hidden manifest and the manifest hidden; Remove the darkness; Uncloth it; Make this visible invisible and the invisible visible. (Evola)

So, instead of wondering if the alchemists were trying to change iron into actual gold, we must regard the initiatic knowledge behind this process: what is hidden within the element iron? Which ‘Martian’ / Tyrian qualities are hidden within our own prima materia and could be uncovered? There are the Shadow aspects of Mars such as atavistic sexuality, blind and choleric aggression and instead of denouncing, repressing these, we should sublimate (sublimatio) these qualities in order to help us grow, to help us forward on our alchemical path.

The Adept of the Sinister Tradition invokes these energies through the Dark God Shugara whose name you can find widdershin wise in the mandala. According to the Sinister Tradition Shugara must be seen as one of the most cruel and hideous intrusions on the causal plane.

The transmutation of iron implies therefore reaching for these sinister forces, and make them visible in our Dasein in order to attain a more Authentic way of living. This may lead to certain sinister acts: it depends upon the Warrior how these are expressed but they should always aim for a goal that transcends the mundane plane.

The Salt of the Earth

Iron connects us to the Earth, Eorthe, to which we should stay true and faithful. Eorthe represents our instinctual nature, our capacity to connect with the Numinous inherent to Nature. This also refers to the alchemical element of Salt which is atributed to Mars and which you can find in my drawing.

In the alchemical presentation there are since Paracelsus three principles: 1) the salt of wisdom (sal sapientiae), 2) sulphur en 3) mercury. The salt in its most pure form is to be found in the interior of Eorthe and it is brought there by the sea water. Salt is the principle of crystallization and it is composed out of the elements Earth and Water. Salt must be (dis)solved, liquefied in order to continue the Opus. Furthermore Salt is connected to Eorthe because of its fertilizing and generative power.  A lot more can be said about Salt (which I intend after a study of this interesting element), but the link with the active principle within Mars is clear. To become a spiritual warrior one should be ready for this demanding but most rewarding work of human palingenesis. Seek for the Salt within yourself, within the history of Europa and challenge yourself as the operator of the Great Work.

Innerer Krieg

Because of the alchemical importance of this Sphere I added the words ‘Innerer Krieg’. Travelling through this Sphere concerns the Sublimierung/Sublimation of your passions and drives (as a homo natura) in order to create a new type of man: someone who, after his Pathei-Matos and thus learning from experience, from solve et coagula, is ready to travel the Numinous Path. The Path of the Inner Warrior, the one who has defeated obstacle after obstacle and is still prepared to fall. Someone who has become humble and Silent and feels connected to his forefathers, his Heimat, Völkisch Values of simplicity and solitude in a most deafening world of decay, pollution and noise. An authentic Way of living as Heidegger has taught us: a truly being-in-the-world. 

In our daily existence we are driven by tanha, which is the central force of samsaric existence, which in Buddhism is the beginning-less cycle of repeated birth, mundane existence and dying again. Tanha is our thirst or craving for life to renew itself, its will-to-power, life’s insatiable quest for satisfaction and gratification. Tanha can therefore be seen, metaphorically, as “the general condition from which there arise all kinds of affects.” It simply expresses “the most general and basic condition of being an inhabitant of samsara – or even the cosmos itself.” (Morrison 1997: 141). Our Innere Krieg is fuelled by Tanha and its outcome, as we have seen in our presentation of the violent aspects of Mars/Ares, can be inward (regeneration as an individual; resurgence of the spiritual within) but also outward (the outcome of the Kali Yuga; the palingenesis of the Western society).

Metaphysics of War

Evola re-interpretes the notion of War as a metaphysical duty. At the centre of a traditional society Evola locates a spiritual elite from which warriors derive their ultimate reason of being, their supreme justification of their actions. According to the traditional concept the warrior does not fight as a servile caste, is not a ‘profession’ or a mercenary as in a capitalist system. The warrior caste has its own spiritual and distinct way of living, its own rituals, and the act of fighting becomes a spiritual practice. This can be compared to the cult of Eastern combat which integrates fighting techniques with the Numinous. This is the definition of metaphysical warriorship.

Myatt’s life has been a supreme example of this kind of exeatic and metaphysical living, and the West was clearly not ready to accept such a living as an exemple of a regeneration of the European man and his Volk. Georges Bataille was also drawn to this kind of living although he would not have supported the choices made by Myatt. Nevertheless the mysticism of Myatt, his Numinous Living, is a grand example of an ongoing Innerer Krieg and an ongoing influence of the sinister forces of the Sphere of Mars. Evola talks about ‘a spiritualized personality’, namely a personality realized according to its supernatural (metaphysical) destiny.

This is what we must aim for at first: dig for the Salt, dissolve it and realize your personality according to your Wyrd. Of course, far more easily said than done, but face the Great Work, accept your Destiny and start it according to your own capacities, qualities by going through the various Spheres. The Martian Sphere will prepare you for your battles. From the individual plane onwards we can grow towards something greater, far greater, namely the Imperium. But let us become humble at first and use the energy of Mars, sublimate its deadly and sinister forces to start our own personal palingenesis: like the Greek and Roman elite, the Germanic warriors, the Templars, the Christian ascetic monks, the Buddhist monks be weary of the world, despise its vanity, retreat from it when possible in asectic heroism. Evola evokes the greatness of Rome, but as the saying goes, Rome was not built in one day. That counts for your alchemical opus as well but always be determined that the new man will reach his aeonic goal.

The spiritual elite of the future Imperium starts with you. Forge that spear from your inner Iron and choose your batlles. Learn from adversity!  Pathei-Mathos. Hail Mars! Agios O Shugara!
