SIR: the Pathway to the Sphere of Luna

The Preparation

In orde to prepare yourself for this alchemical journey, which you will have to take multiple times (solve et coagula), focus on the illustration of the Man’s Gate. The Man’s Gate stands for  your temporary departure from the causal realm. This meditation will offer you the possibility to  go through a serious introspection and preparation for real life actions (things occuring to you at this moment, preparing for the 7FW, other LHPways, …) through which you are going to be transformed. Do not ‘aim’ for transformation, but let it occur, open yourself to this possibility and confront yourself with situations that demands such a reaction. From action – reaction comes growth.

Man’s Gate is the ‘exit’ (and also entrance) to the material plane, causal realm where the homo hubris flourishes. Georges Bataille would describe this as the instrumental world as everything serves a mundane purpose: just like a thing a person becomes an object which can be used, abused or thrown away. As you gaze into the illustration, picture yourself mundane situations, mundane actions and observe them in your mind. Do not mock them, do not judge them, but observe from a distance. What would you do? How would you react? What would you do differently and why? And then, confront yourself with the ‘mundane I’. When do you behave mundanely? Or these natural reactions? Do not judge yourself as you are ‘human all too human’. Remain humble and dignified, for this is a search for the Numinous. Prepare yourself as you are about to enter the Dark Night of the Soul. Ask yourself the question how to achieve spiritual growth. In the alchemical process this is called the Nigredo or the blackness: the confrontation with and the descent into the Prima Materia.

First Dark Pathway: entering the Sphere of Luna

“…Before you, is a silver crescent moon, touch it.
You are now entering the dark sphere, of Luna.
This, is earthy, fertile land, a moist cavernous terrain.
A young maiden approacheth wearing a crescent moon headdress
and a blue robe.
She, Is, beautiful!
She offers her hand in friendship.
Touch her hand.
Ah! Smooth porcelain,
the dew of the moon on her cheeks.
But this is a lovely place,
instantly she transforms… into a dark horned beast,
ague in shape but clear in nature.
The horn… proceeds to impale You!
Gouging your intestines!
Rupturing your stomach!
Blood and bile, vomits from your splitting torso!
The horn, has shattered your vertebrae!
The beast brings down a starless night and withdraws.
You see briefly, the face of a woman,
wracked with laughter, mocking your very essence.
She too is now gone into the black,
that gnaws at your astral bones.
This is the sphere of hidden knowledge.
The blood that continues to gush,
has formed a glowing red pool.
Scry now, into the pool.
It will show you secrets of what you are,
of what you want to be, and what you can be.
Keep this information clear, in your mind, you will need it later.
The thick, liquid stirs…
look… Look into the pool You filthy regenerates!…”

Von Sanngetall, The Sphere of Luna (2003)

As you descend into the Prima Materia you must confront yourself with that which is hidden in your psyche. This is the Shadow aspect and this is cast away, neglected, suppressed. The Moon is the Sphere of Terror & sinister Knowledge. Its blue colour stands for the unconscious. As you gaze into the illustration open up your psyche and let down the barriers of the Superego: all laws and moral prescriptions. Acephalically: decapitate yourself and let go all ratio. This is an important aspect of the Nigredo as well. Invoke terror upon yourself and your surroundings. Not for the sake terror and destruction itself, but from a generative point of view.

Seek “that which is strange, which lies outside the scope of any world view; that which lies within the Dark Pool beneath the Moon and threatens to devour, create madness. A stage which cannot be ignored if further development is saught, requiring a descent to draw out that which is obscure, fearfully hidden: the gateway to the Abyss. A point from which there is no turning back: that which leads to rebirth via death.” (Christos Beest)

Question all -isms, all ideations, all principles (Way of the Numinous, Myatt) which have been advocated in this secularized world, a Welt of hubris, which is almost completely devoid of the Sacred Traditions and where man has plagiarized himself for the sake of post-Enlightenment values.

I invite you to seek the company of the Sinister Female Gods that inhabit the Sphere of the Moon.

The Self-Immolation Rite: Intro + Man’s Gate

“…Disembodied art Thou…
sunk into the black pit,
the dark night of the soul.
All roads that lead here are scattered with corpses
and broken souls and gibbering idiots.
Be not a gibbering ape!
For all who traverse these dark spheres
and explore their shadow selves will emerge as Gods!
I say this with my mouth, which trembles in memory
of a time when demons walked the earth,
the various examples of their cookery billowing in the wind.
But now, heads roll past my feet, encased in pastry.
THE GATE HAS OPENED!
Enter dark angels, enter…
Prepare Ye for the Self Immolation Rite!”

(Christos Beest)

Introduction

One of the most haunting and beautiful evocations of the Sinister remains the Self-Immolation Rite (SIR) of the Order of Nine Angles. Originally this was a script written by Christos Beest, and it was meant as an anti-meditation pathworking, while serving as a basic guide to the seven dark spheres of the Septenary. The reading and recording took place in Wales in 1990, and it was released in January 1991 as an issue of the journal Fenrir. In 1997 is was re-mixed with additional recordings by Christos Beest, Wulfrun Hall, “Lucius” and Brenna Kinsley.

In 2003 Bestia Centauri was contacted by an adherent of the ONA to create a new version of the SIR and BC was given carte blanche to re-record the Ritual, or even to create something entirely new. BC chose the latter option, and in his recording he left out the orginal text with the human voices and also he conventional sounds of man’s surroundings. BC aimed for something totally alienating in order to reflect the Cosmic and acausal ambience of the Rite. For the practitioner of the 7FW enters via Man’s Gate and undergoes an alchemical transition leading up to the Chaos of Saturn and eventually The Star Gate. Ultimately the aim of the SIR is to strip off the practitioner of his layers of human dross. It guides one’s search for what Myatt calls the Numionous. Of course, the ONA offers Eorthe-based rituals as well but the SIR must transform the practitioner into something inhuman/unhuman in order to be able to enter, if only briefly, the sphere of the Acausal.

Bestia Centauri and me had encountered each other on one of the yahoo-groups discussing the ONA. He asked me whether I was interested to contribute artistically to provide fitting illustrations for the 9 stages: Man’s Gate, the Septenary and the Star Gate. Of course, I was more than honoured to contribute to this Opus. My creations were added in the booklet of the cd and I also wrote a special introduction. The recordings of Bestia Centauri can be found through youtube, but the cd itself is no longer available. Therefore I would like to share my text and the specific creations.

In this first post the introductionary text + Man’s Gate:

The text within the booklet:

In Paradise Lost, Milton describes the dwelling place of Satan and his legions as “a dungeon horrible”, where all light and hope are taken from its new inhabitants, only to be swallowed up by a blackness that reveals only “sights of woe”. To follow Satan in his fall from heaven, to fully appreciate the agon-istic essence of this earthbound Dark God, implies leaving the safe womb of “common human laws and interests and emotions” (H.P. Lovecraft). Hold yourself in readiness, for plunging into the mouth of madness should never be taken too lightly. For the alluring depths of the cosmic powers can easily turn into a bonecrushing tunnel of razor-sharp knives and dismembering blades. Do not venture to deeply into the intestines of the Sublime as, at this stage, you are faustian, all too faustian. The human desire to become one with the subliminal scene, to throw oneself into the fire breathing mouth of the volcano, would only be a cowardly escape from reality. Be aware that you are not ready yet to sacrifice your earthly self in order to “penetrate the verities which lie beneath the surface of things.” (Clark Ashton Smith) First, you need to prepare yourself before you are fully able to understand and experience what C. A. Smith calls “the awful mysteries of our mortal existence.“

Therefore, we have no choice but to embrace “the utter impenitent darkness” that strengthened Satan and the rebellious angels in their confrontation with God, the ruler of heaven. Our search aligns us with Satan, the Opposer, for we aim to bring down the slave morality that turns every man and woman into a herd animal. Just like Satan, we need to resurrect, to build our Pandemonium: a grand infernal palace whose walls are decorated with numinous artistic designs celebrating the Sinister through the ages. As one admires these grand works, one’s ears will be caressed by unearthly melodies, sonic creations that delve into one’s unconscious and stir up the Beast, Leviathan, that lies sleeping on the bottom of the abyss. One’s mind will be guided as it flies through strange inhuman and threatening spheres. The passage through these nine spheres is not safe, as it is only meant for the boldest and most disobedient of beings, those who are capable of preparing the advent of the Übermensch.

Wordsworth said that suffering is “permanent, obscure and dark”, and so is the journey through the dominions of the Dark Gods. Furthermore, he added that this suffering has the nature of infinity and how could it be different! Did you really think that the immolation of your causal self could be established by a single ritual? Some silly mumbo-jumbo that is as dull as ditch water. One has to sacrifice, to immolate one-self ad infinitum. The Pandemonium will have to be rebuilt over and over again but that will not kill those who are willing to pursue this task; it will only make them stronger. To traverse these outer regions might make you feel a prey to “a perpetual horror”, namely, the angst of being buried prematurely or the fear “to find [your]self the tenant of a grave.” (E.A. Poe) This “sepulchral Idea” might haunt as you travel from one sphere to another, but the never-ending process of dying and being reborn is part of this alchemical journey. Venture “into the outer Night”, listen to the cries of the “great agonies” that reign in these obscure zones. Do not rush into a world of phantasms, where all the Last Men flee from the terrors that await the dwellers of the bottomless pit. Be prepared to pass through these melancholic spheres, which you shall experience “with an utter depression of soul” incomparable to any earthly sensation, besides perhaps the experience of an opium-eater who bitterly lapses into everyday life. “The hideous dropping off of the veil”, as Poe calls it. The veil of everyday life, of your causal meditations, of your ideological concerns will only seem a deceptive appearance. The Immolation of the self is therefore the immolation of one’s causal interests, those that sterilize the Will to Power. It is the final destruction of Paradise. Enter this rite and leave the Torture Garden, and be baptized in the lake of fire and brimstone. Free the acausal energy within, as “energy is Eternal Delight.” (W.Blake)

Therefore, let the journey commence:

A meditation on physis and becoming

atu-iii-mistress-of-earth

As I was singing the Sinister Chant dedicated to Jupiter, Agios O Baphomet, I reflected on the dark essence of the Mother of Blood, her sinisterly-feminine Nature. As I was practicing the chant, candles lit and incense burning, a vision of a shapeshifting, Kali-like, feminine divinity entered my mind. I saw her dancing most seductively in the burning rays of a huge giant Svn which was about to outburst like a volcanoe. I literally felt a giant outpouring of Numinous Energy descending upon me, obliterating my-self and the World. In her multiple hands she was holding the heads of men and at her feet I saw the decapitated bodies of her sacrificial victims as she had released them from the burden of their rational, project-minded, instrumental, mundane life, and their Spirit was set free to join the cosmic Flux of life. Our Mother might cruel, but her essence and intentions are the Purest Evil you can imagine. Within the Sinister Tradition Baphomet is being evoked, but of course this dark female principle, this Mistress of the Earth, is also represented by Lilith, Kali, Hecate and so on. The names in these various pagan traditions are merely causal, the essence however is Acausal and thus Cosmic.

Now, as I was meditating on this Essence I was suddenly reminded of one of Bataille’s meditations in which he evokes a dark feminine divinity, and this meditation is called “Méditation héraclitéenne” (Heraclitean Meditation) which he wrote in 1939 for his Secret Group L’Acéphale. He and the other adepts of this Secret Group must have used this meditation as part of their rituals they conducted in the woods. I genuinely believe that texts, meditations, evocations which were written for ritualistic purposes carry within them a certain power. The Words themselves, the meaning as such does not matter, but it is the poetry of the words, their sheer beauty and intent which make them magickal. The text is originally in French and I present you my translation. I am not a professional translator so I may have interpreted some lines, but that does not matter. I did not translate the whole text as I left out small parts (…) which were hard to translate and therefore incomprehensible in English. This is about the intent, the energetic flow within and between the words:

Heraclitean Meditation

(G. Bataille, 1939- my translation)

I am War – I am Joy Before Death

I imagine an inexorable mouvement and an intense excitement – of which the possibilities are limitless – which never calm down except during the war

I imagine a dark female divinity dancing seductively in the Eternal Night, dancing and moving with quiet violence. She is hungry for blood, mutilated corpses and Death.

I imagine the Gift of an infinite suffering, of blood and of corpses (…) This Gift is a huge holocaust burning. A tremendous conflagration of which the eagerness is comparable to the Fire that only burns to devour itself and that has only one purpose: to  devour itself and to burn inexhaustibly. I can only compare this Fire to the dazzling Svn or the distant Stars radiating their unimaginable heat and light.

I can see Eorthe being projected into deep Space and I can compare this to a woman crying out in horror, her hair in flames.

I hate the need for this prolonged stupidity which is the opposite of the freedom of the woman’s Cry. After hearing this cry I lose myself.

This pitiless craving – taken to its most extreme principle by getting rid of this intolerable mask of stupidity  of military endeavours (serving any ideology or other ideas) – demands that I become this Cry and thus I become One with the brase of Life which consumes me until my Death.

With all my powers, and by lifting myself beyond my own nausea, I take upon myself everthing I can of this wretched craving for Life and this will-to-live. This craving makes one’s selflessness impossible and delivers each existence into the hands of Fear.

With all my powers, I consume my own craving to stay alive and the one of my fellow beings as well, in my Joy before Death. And as I consume this craving I feel that I burn hilariously the way the Svn does.

In this world of Summer and Winter, which consistute a dying blaze killing everything that lives, in this ever rotating universe giving itself to the stars which consume limitlessly, I recognize a cruel craving that demands my Death in a most violent manner. She requires it to still her endless consumption and appetite, for her Joy to exist most gloriously. She demands that everything which has ever been, must constantly destroy itself.

 (…)

This philosophical – poetic evocation presents the most important elements of our Acéphalic Mysticism: the Sinister Feminine Essence, Headlessness, mystic Violence & War, the Svn and of course  the Sacred / Continuum.

Bataille also believed in a Continuum, a flux of Energy and in his meditation he refers to the element of Fire. This brings us to Heraclitus and David Myatt.

Heraclitus & David Myatt

In Myatt’s Notes on Heraclitus we find a valuable addition to Bataille’s Heraclitean Meditation.

The phrase Φύσις κρύπτεσθαι φιλεῖ – attributed to Heraclitus – is often translated along the following lines: Nature loves to conceal Herself (or, Nature loves to hide).

David Myatt explains that a central concept of  the philosophy of Pathei Mathos is Φύσις (Physis). Referring to Aristotle Physis not only denotes ‘nature’ or the character of a person, but “physis denotes the being of those beings who or which have the potentiality (the being) to change, be changed, or to develope.” (Myatt). Myatt refers to becoming, growth, a natural unfolding, or as we have mentioned in our latest post: blossoming. Myatt underscores that this is not about some abstract essence, but rather a balance a being should achieve: a balance between what you were, are now and the potentiality that might be. A constant inner dialectical proces that takes place as part of your alchemical growth. Bataille was also intruiged by dialectics and in his meditations he also urges one not to stand still, to get rid of a prolonged stupidty, the mask of stupidity. Myatt calles this Hubris. So, both agree on the fact that one should not strife for some ‘ideal’, but one is constantly in motion.

heraclitus2

For Heraclitus Physis is the “natural being which we tend to cover up” and therefore we are talking about an ontology: “a reality, a true nature”. As Myatt explains in his Notes on Heraclitus:

Thus, Φύσις (Physis) is not simply what we understand as Nature; rather, Nature is one way in which Φύσις is manifest, presenced, to us: to we human beings who possess the faculty of consciousness and of reflexion (Thought). That is, what we term Nature [See Note 2] has the being, the attribute, of Physis. (Myatt)

And further:

Essentially, the nature of Physis is to be concealed, or hidden (something of a mystery) even though Physis becomes revealed, or can become revealed, by means such as λόγος. There is, thus, a natural change, a natural unfolding – of which Nature is one manifestation – so that one might suggest that Physis itself is this process [ the type of being] of a natural unfolding which can be revealed and which can also be, or sometimes remain, concealed. (Myatt)

Myatt therefore concludes that:

One translation is: Concealment accompanies Physis. Or: Concealment remains with Physis, like a friend. Another is: The natural companion of Physis is concealment. Or, more poetically perhaps, but much less literally, one might suggest: Physis naturally seeks to remain something of a mystery. (Myatt)

Physis as this natural unfolding, this growth, this blossoming will somehow always remain a mysterie, something we cannot uncover. There are hidden laws at work. Now, for Heraclitus transformation was “the fundamental principle underlying coming-to-be and the diversity of Nature” (Geldard 2000). Fire became his symbol of creation and dissolution. Heraclitus wanted his students to penetrate the surfaces of the manifest world to comprehend it and “to seek transformation to a higher knowledge of the Cosmos” (Geldard 2000). Dr. Geldard here refers to the further development of alchemy which we will focus on later.

According to Heraclitus we are overwhelmed by our senses and these have “mired us in a banal existence to the detriment of our true nature.” (Geldard 2000)

We must free ourselves from the domination of ideas, ideologies, words, ordinary cycles of existence “in the fire of our consciousness”. The transformation by Fire is highly underestimated! We need to follow a transformative Path, true to Physis, of inner inquiry (the Greek and Roman wisdom, the mystics such as Meister Eckhart, Jacob Boehme, Heidegger, Myatt). Our Fire must be kindled by those ferocious thinkers such as Nietzsche and Bataille. The Ways to follow are causal manifestations and meaningless -isms. In this respect I would like to refer to this excellent text of Acausality.

Choose the Way that strengthens you, that appeals to but always remain true to the hidden essence of Physis. Become a nexion, an affective effluvium kindled by the sacred Fire. May Baphomet, Kali, Hecate, Lilith guide you on your Path.

Agios O Alastoros: from where Empathy blossoms

mars01

The Sphere of Mars, Von S

Sinister Chant

Yesterday afternoon I practiced the Sinister Chant of the Sphere of Mars. In combination with the importance and perfection of posture, which I have learned from my Zen Meditation Practice, I intend to perfect my singing as I have no such formal education or choir practice whatsoever. Of course like any endeavour, this will take time and devotion but the Sinister Chants will help me to focus on the Essence of the 7FW and the sinister aspects of Acéphalic Mysticism. The fact that this form of chanting is based on a grand secular tradition of the Gregorian chants as these chants have always appealed to me and its orthodox and mystic nature reveals its Numinous strength. Trough its Traditionalism I feel connected to the rich cultural and religious history of Europe. Georges Bataille was also fascinated by the Christian mystics and the orthodox practices. As it is our aim to become “ferociously religious” these Sinister Chants will guide me to the Acausal.  But just like Zen Meditation this will demand time and devotion.

As it was Tuesday I chose the chant appropriate to the Sphere of Mars, namely Agios O Alastoros. The Romans called their Tuesday Martis dies as this was named after their war god Mars. Our Germanic forefathers took over the Roman system and they used Tyr as a basis.

The Sinister Chant itself:

agios-o-alastaros

While focussing on my Mandala of the Sphere of Mars I felt that the Sinister Chant added more solemnity, more profoundness, a Numinous quality, to my meditation. Of course, my will-to-focus must improve and it shall as I improve my singing. As one turns one’s attention to the perfection of posture, practice, singing and so on, the mind is no longer focussed on and occupied with senseless and everyday occupations. As a whole one is able to transgress the ‘causal’ obligations,  one can open oneself to the grander scheme of things. This is all part of the Alchemical Opus.

Zeus Alastoros

Now, I asked myself what Alastoros referred to. The Sphere of Mars is dedicated to workings of Destruction and Sacrifice, so Alastoros should refer to this. When one is singing the words in itself no longer matter because in order to enter the Sacred one must lose one’s ratio, one’s head. After the singing of course the question remains.

Alastoros or Alastor refers to the Greek mythology because it is part of one of the many names of Zeus: Zeus Alastoros. With this name the Greeks referred to one aspect of their supreme god, namely Zeus as a god who takes revenge when a crime is wrongfully committed. The name refers to his protective punitive power as he takes revenge when someone has been wronged. Thus Zeus protects the victims who were wrongfully hurt or attacked. This is a pagan virtue which demonstrates honourful conduct as one is supposed to protect those who are family or those who are part of the community or one’s tribe. There is nothing  ‘rational’ or ‘calculated’ behind it as you take this oath as part of a community. This conduct is a form of self-sacrifice as you put your own safety at risk.

mun_t03_m03_01_zeus  Zeus and the Eagle as his symbol

The words ‘Alastoros’ or ‘Alastor’ themselves refer to the outraged spirit/daemon who sends disfortune upon the offenders, or they refer to the person afflicted. Later on Alastoros was used independently from Zeus, and it generally meant an angry vengeful power.

The fact that Alastoros is one of the several names of Zeus demonstrates the complexity of the pagan gods. They are not ‘pure’ or ‘perfect’ the way Magian believers regard their God, but the pagan gods, even the supreme ones like Zeus and Odin, are able to commit mistakes, are able to be violent when this is necessary. The fact that after a while Alastoros referred to ‘an angry vengeful spirit’ is actually an impoverishment as it shows the Magian influence by adding ‘morality’. Suddenly, what once was the Sacred as a whole, now becomes categorized into ‘moral good’ and ‘moral evil’. To take revenge, even when this is meant to undo a crime committed, becomes a forbidden act of violence as violence means ‘evil’.

As we have seen in history the monotheistic faiths took over the pagan Weltanschauung (gods, festivals, rituals), incorporated it their orthodoxy and thus turned it into something acceptable. The complexity of the pagan pantheon was reduced to one almighty god, some celestial beings, and the inhabitants of hell, namely Satan and the various legions of demons. Bataille has always maintained that Satanism and Black Magic were Ways to uphold the ancient Ways. If I look at Alastor for example, I can find Alastor in my dictionary of demonology.

Alastor is a demon executioner from the infernal Court, and he is often confused with the demon Azazel. Alastor is invoked in order to execute certain punishments, most often lethal. He is thus a destructive demon. He should be invoked on a Tuesday of or a Saturday. It is stated clearly that Alastor is nothing but an executioner and the invocation should be done as part of a sentence or judgement. This takes us back to the name of Zeus Alastoros, namely to take revenge. However in the case of the demon it is not stipulated that you aim to undo a wrongdoing. It can simply be a personal matter between you and the victim, whoever is ‘right’. You are your own judge and Alastor is your executioner.

The Way of the Numinous

From a Numinous point of view it is entirely up to you, your own responsibility, to act honorably and use this invocation, chant with humility. What do you wish to justify? Why do you need to take revenge? Do you want to become that stereotypical egotistic ‘Black Magician’ that cannot handle a setback, a loss, Life as a whole? Instead of learning from adversity, Pathei Mathos, is it really necessary to seek revenge? Or are you able to learn and move on? This is not a question of morality but purely naturalistic reasoning: become stronger by defeat, become the power that is staring you in the face when you look in the Abyss.

I intend to employ this chant as part of my alchemical growth in order to destroy what hinders me in my further development. To seek revenge shows far too much involvement with the causal. Do not become a tyran, as Myatt teaches us. Why should I invest in my pride, in my empty shell of an Ego? Do not let hatred, a pure drive for violence take over. Of course, become a militant, take upon discipline but not from an ‘evil magician’s point of view’. I intend to use these chants to get to know my inner demons, to descend into my personal Prima Materia, invoke the Alastor in me so I  can control it and convert its Sinister and destructive energies into something Beautiful and Honorable.

Something that transcends my petty Ego and  that is exactly where Empathy starts and from where it can blossom. In the Japanense Weltanschauung the blossom of Cherry Tree is Sacred. It is about the perfection of Form and it is only temporarily. Our existence is finite as well. Our being is a being-towards-Death (Heidegger) and let us therefore invest in this singular moment of blossom: beyond the head (acéphalic) and beyond the Ego.

The Numinous and modernity

Intro

In this blog post I want to share my view on David Myatt’s Mysticism of the Numinous and its importance for the further development of our Acephalic Mysticism. Within the Sinister Tradition the concept of the Numinous has been made clear by the practices, rituals and ethos of the ONA. Now, David Myatt is the mystic who developed through his various experiences (NS, Christian & Buddhist monk, Jihad warrior) the Way of the Numinous. First of all I offer an introduction by describing the valuable insights of Michel Foucault, and of course, Georges Bataille who were both critical of Modernity and how Modernity shaped, moulded and created modern man. This is a philosophical introduction after which we go into various aspects of Myatt’s mysticism.

Michel Foucault & the Greek-Roman Ethos

The French philosopher Michel Foucault (1926 – 1984) was highly critical towards the means and technologies employed by modern systems of power (governments, science, industry, …) to constitute what Foucault called ‘a docile subject’. A ‘subject’ is the term he used for each person subjected by invisible means of control in order to make sure he remains docile. In his works Foucault pointed out that there are are various means to exercise power for example through the use of language (propaganda, scientific vocabulary, psychology, …), through laws set up by different institutions, and so on. One of the most important influences on Foucault, our dear Nietzsche, had already pointed out that the science of psychology  has one sole aim: to know and thus to control. As we know very well data has become one of the most valuable assets. Present-day technology (under the auspices of capitalism and neoliberalism) has even accelerated this process of dominion and, of what I would call, do-cilization and thus reinforcing the mundanity of our species.

Foucault situates the start of this docilization process at the start of modernity (mid 1800’s) and thus a direct result of the Enlightenment. As of modernity knowledge and data have been used to control and actually shape ‘individual life and all social relations. Nietzsche was already aware of mankind’s inappeasable thirst for knowledge and his desire to capture everything into words, books, facts and so on. Instead of increasing our freedom these so-called enlightend practices of modernity delimit our personal space. This ‘will to know’ started as natural laws, racial laws, causal psychologocial reasoning, medical and sexual knowledge and so on. We will come back to the term ‘causal’ when we focus on Myatt’s mysticism of the Numinous.

Natural, medical and psychological sciences were employed in the service of controling its objects, its patients and the priest who conducted this research was the scientist who regarded himself as a completely rational being with one mission: eradicating all forms of superstition/religious/sacredness, of empathy (Myatt), of humility (Myatt). Let us make one thing clear: we are not talking about the ‘pure’ science of cosmology, astronomy, mathematics, chemistry but we focus on the science that is applied to dominate the human subject, to turn him into a study object that is completely rational and predictable. Foucault also refers to the process as a ‘normalising’ process because it clearly defines what is seen as normal and what is abnormal:

For example classic sexual science tells us that sex is only to propagate and thus the only ‘normal’ relationship is one between man and a woman. Linked with this is the ‘instruction’ that women should be at home, raising children, be quiet and so on. Monotheitistic religions such as Christianity and Islam have always advocated this and since modernity the conservative sexual sciences support this as well. According to them both men and women have ‘normal’ roles to play, while history has shown that these roles can change, the woman are powerful as well. Our pagan forefathers held other less ‘normal’ views, relationships between males were condoned in the Greek-Roman society and in our modern society one should keep an open mind. With Crowley homosexual practices were normal as part of his magickal work and the ONA is the first Satanic ‘organisation’ that has a homosexual rite and pays hommage to the Sinister-Feminine instead of classic macho behaviour. Myatt was initiated in the Sinister Tradition by a Priestess. In the world of the Sacred such ‘classic’ roles, supported by science and magian belief, are non-existent and the adept is far more than a docile subject.

Foucault was highly critical of this standardization and the will to turn everything into a homogeneous society. Medical science had terrible methods to ‘fight’ and eradicate mental illnesses for example. Madness, lunacy should not be seen as a threat but an enrichment. Of course, in order to protect society and the patients, the most severe cases must be treated, but in the 19th and 20th century the mentally ill were actually tortured as they were regarded as Üntermenschen. Scientist aimed at ‘internalizing’ their scientific results in order to create better humans. This was also the time of Social Darwinism: instead of eradicating the homo hubris, this ideology actually inforced the Homo Hubris, namely the type of man that believes himself invincible, who acts beyond humility, who because of science deifies himself: he wants to become a god and be revered as such. Nietzsche declared that God was dead and the scientists erected a new one: man himself. The man from modernity no longer looked up to God, but to himself. Such idleness! Myatt’s Mysticism will prove to be the antidote we need.

I have just finished my artistic exploration of the Sphere of Venus as part of my intent to symbolize the whole Tree of Wyrd, as a sign of my dedication to the Sinister Tradition.

A lot has already been written about the Sphere of Venus, the astrological aspects of Venus, so no need to copy them. Also the Sphere of Venus has already been described in the Mss of the ONA. There are a few things I have personally added through my exploration of its singular power.

First of all, and part of the exoteric strategy of the ONA, the reference to one of the most ancient symbols of the West, namely the magickal script of the Runes. Specifically for Venus I have drawn the Othala and Fehu Runes.

Fehu

Fehu, of course, as the Rune of Freya, the most powerful goddess of love, war and sexual attraction of the Northern pantheon. Fehu’s energy stands for the Will-to-Power, Sexual power, Feminine and matriarchal Power. The Rune itself means ‘cattle’ and stood for mobile wealth. But I prefer not to pay attention to the ‘materialistic’ connotation of this Rune as materialism is already the main focus in the West nowadays. The Rune’s spiritual power lies however in the energy, the transference from the acausal to the causal through Love/agape, in the ability to feel empathy, to feel connected with your folk around you, good friends, soul mates, between lovers but also the connection with Nature, your Heimat. This also denotes wealth, but a spiritual one. Being, as Heidegger wrote, is always a being there (Dasein) as we are thrown into this world (Gefallenheit) we are here with others and the Other. There is the transference of energy, of experiences which we are building on and how we shape who and what we are at this moment, but always with a higher aim. For those who are able to ‘feel’ Fehu, to feel the green glow of Venus, reassuring yet tantalizing, know that there is something Eternal calling us. As Myatt described this very well: there is no division between us, ipseity is just an illusion and ipseities offer us no answer, no matter how we are longing after definite answers. The Sphere of Venus offers no answer, but its green colour, one of the colours of Nature, can actually soothe us. Not soothing us ‘to sleep’ but actually an awakening, a break-through.

The feeling of  empathy and compassion is one through which we become humble again, (as opposed to the ‘Black Magic’ formulas of becoming gods), and then we are ready to receive the richness from the acausal. The Sinister demands one to go beyond one’s limits and to leave the Ego behind. Just like in the alchemical Opus we have to become a vessel ready to accept without hesitation. The same applies to showing compassion: we can learn to love, to hold on. Agape is a Greek term which refers to such a state of mind and which is far more spiritual than the word ‘love’ that is used nowadays. Agape refers to a state of mind which destroys all illusions and puts us in an unconditional position. Unconditionally religious (religare = to connect). A most orthodox state of mind. Bataille demanded us to be ferociously religious. And we will  not contradict him!

Bataille also referred to ‘love’ and ‘friendship’ as forms of wordless communication, a communication without demands, words, and this puts one in a delicate position almost defenceless. One enters the energetic Continuous where boundaries by definitions no longer apply. When I meditate I open my being-there to the World, and I let go of all my thoughts by casting them aways as illusionary. Agape is for those who are committed to an acephalic path of pure, selfless commitment. The ‘I’ is no longer present, one is devoted to a higher cause, devoted to the happiness of a friend or lover, to the spiritual realization of one’s Wyrd, the Wyrd of the West. A Higher Destiny of which Spengler and Heidegger wrote. Agape is also a Christian term, but one should not be afraid of it, or cast it aside as something ‘un-satanic’ or ‘weak’, for the term goes beyond all morality: to feel connected is a naturalistic essence. It goes beyond ‘good & evil’ and orthodox Christianity (its roots being Gnostic) is well aware of that.

We are all driven by a thrist, a longing, a will-to-power (Buddhist tanha), and we all have the need to satisfy this but let us not focus on that kind of easy satisfaction. Those urges and cravings steer us away from any possibility to inter-connect, to feel the energy drawn from the acausal to the causal.

Othala

The Othala Rune’s energy denotes the spiritual inheritance from our ancestors, our people, the land where we have been raised, its traditions, its folklore, its customs. What can we learn from those traditions that also played an important role in Europe such those of the Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs, Christianity and gnosticism. What can we learn from them? I genuinely believe in an Wordless tradition, a Tradition of the Soul which has been causally transferred through the ages into the Alchemical Tradition of the Great Work. The Sinister Tradition and my particular acephalic path are based on those ancient insights, add new ideas but are loyal to the Tradition.

Now, the Othala Rune exoterically reconnects me to my Heimat, the environment where I have been raised and which strenghtens me to honour those ancients Traditions. Albeit there being different high cultures (Greek, Roman, Arab, Christian) this is not about modern-day multiculturalism. Multiculturalism is only focussed on the causal (food, spice, habits and so on) while an über-cultural Tradition is about the lifting of the Soul, about what Jung referred as a collective unconcious. The Green sphere of Venus can be seen as nurturing that feeling of connecting again.

Another important aspect of the Othala Runes can be traced back to nobilitas, nobility, being noble. And this is an important element if we desire to grow spiritually, to evolve further and further away from the pathetic state of the mundanes in order to realise the Nietzschean Overman. Hence the connection with the Fehu Rune in the Sphere of Venus.

The Wet Path

Alchemically speaking this is the Sphere of Conjunction (in Naos one refers to Coagulation but I cannot agree with this). In the Hermetic Arts Conjunction occurs when a synthesis, a conjunctio occurs of the anima and the animus, the unconscious and conscious, the natural and that which one knows. One must therefore enter the Continuous and start to look introspectively: the Geist must turn towards itself (the inner change of which Myatt writes) instead of always looking at the outside. We must let ourselves be seduced by the Numinous or what Bataille calls the Sacred. Situated in the Sphere of Venus we talke about the Feminine principle, the eternal-Female which has always been honoured in the Satanic manifestation of the Numinous Sinister Tradition. This is quite a revolution as most Satanic ipseities are male oriented, and regard the female as being submissive, to be controlled. In that opinion these paths do not differ from the Magian beliefs they claim to criticize. The Sinister Tradition however is unique because of its utmost respect towards the female. This is based on the Alchemical understanding of the anima and the animus.

The Path of Venus is what is called a wet Path where the practioner is burnt by water. In the wet path of hermetism there also occur sexual symbols. The sexual act can therefore be seen as an alchemical process in which man and woman are united in love. The conjunctio of man and woman is akin to the operation between two vessels:

“the active and passive, the golden force against the captivating and sympathetic wet force that ‘dissolves’ the former and its own ‘enclosure’.  […] ‘Our corpereal gold is as though dead before it unites with its mate. Only then is the secret, interior Sulfur developed’. […] ‘With the Sulfur of Venus, the inner sulfur of man is rectified, reinforced and wholly perfected’.”  (Julius Evola, The Hermetic Tradition)

Death &  Ecstasy

Interestingly, Evola also mentions the fact that the hermetic texts frequently “speak of a death that is a consequence of the coniunctio, of the ‘joining’, perhaps it also refers to the trauma that can occur at the height of the embrace and orgasm if subjected to a deliberate control.” Bataille referred to the orgasm as a ‘little death’ and this is exactly what occurs at the culmination of the sexual act: ecstasy or ekstasis: going beyond of oneself. In this moment of rapture one become headless, acephalic as one transgresses the limits of ipseity.  The Sphere of Venus can therefore be deadly as well and the Dark Goddess Darkat reigns most supremely.

Dragon and the Ouroboros

In Naos one can find the symbol Dragon as being atributed to the Sphere of Venus. I have chosen the Ouroboros as it stands for the endless flux of energy, birth and Death, creation and destruction, and I find these aspects united in the Sphere of Venus. Freya as a Goddess embodies both love and war, creation & destruction. The dragon, often described to Mercury with which Venus is connected, devours itself and recreates and archetypically symbolizes the collective UR-grond of the Life Cycle.  The attribution to Mercury is perhaps more accurate but Venus does possess such maternal qualities as well for the Water, as they element of Venus, also refers to the maternal water from which we are all born. The Mother as a guardian of the Life Force.

We can therefore conclude that the Sphere of Venus has much to offer to the practitioner. Approach it with the utmost respect. Enjoy the sexual rapture & the mystical Death. Become Acephalic!
