and explore their shadow selves will emerge as Gods!

One of the most haunting and beautiful evocations of the Sinister remains the Self-Immolation Rite (SIR) of the Order of Nine Angles. Originally this was a script written by Christos Beest, and it was meant as an anti-meditation pathworking, while serving as a basic guide to the seven dark spheres of the Septenary. The reading and recording took place in Wales in 1990, and it was released in January 1991 as an issue of the journal Fenrir. In 1997 is was re-mixed with additional recordings by Christos Beest, Wulfrun Hall, “Lucius” and Brenna Kinsley.

In 2003 Bestia Centauri was contacted by an adherent of the ONA to create a new version of the SIR and BC was given carte blanche to re-record the Ritual, or even to create something entirely new. BC chose the latter option, and in his recording he left out the orginal text with the human voices and also he conventional sounds of man’s surroundings. BC aimed for something totally alienating in order to reflect the Cosmic and acausal ambience of the Rite. For the practitioner of the 7FW enters via Man’s Gate and undergoes an alchemical transition leading up to the Chaos of Saturn and eventually The Star Gate. Ultimately the aim of the SIR is to strip off the practitioner of his layers of human dross. It guides one’s search for what Myatt calls the Numionous. Of course, the ONA offers Eorthe-based rituals as well but the SIR must transform the practitioner into something inhuman/unhuman in order to be able to enter, if only briefly, the sphere of the Acausal.

Bestia Centauri and me had encountered each other on one of the yahoo-groups discussing the ONA. He asked me whether I was interested to contribute artistically to provide fitting illustrations for the 9 stages: Man’s Gate, the Septenary and the Star Gate. Of course, I was more than honoured to contribute to this Opus. My creations were added in the booklet of the cd and I also wrote a special introduction. The recordings of Bestia Centauri can be found through youtube, but the cd itself is no longer available. Therefore I would like to share my text and the specific creations.

In Paradise Lost, Milton describes the dwelling place of Satan and his legions as “a dungeon horrible”, where all light and hope are taken from its new inhabitants, only to be swallowed up by a blackness that reveals only “sights of woe”. To follow Satan in his fall from heaven, to fully appreciate the agon-istic essence of this earthbound Dark God, implies leaving the safe womb of “common human laws and interests and emotions” (H.P. Lovecraft). Hold yourself in readiness, for plunging into the mouth of madness should never be taken too lightly. For the alluring depths of the cosmic powers can easily turn into a bonecrushing tunnel of razor-sharp knives and dismembering blades. Do not venture to deeply into the intestines of the Sublime as, at this stage, you are faustian, all too faustian. The human desire to become one with the subliminal scene, to throw oneself into the fire breathing mouth of the volcano, would only be a cowardly escape from reality. Be aware that you are not ready yet to sacrifice your earthly self in order to “penetrate the verities which lie beneath the surface of things.” (Clark Ashton Smith) First, you need to prepare yourself before you are fully able to understand and experience what C. A. Smith calls “the awful mysteries of our mortal existence.“

Therefore, we have no choice but to embrace “the utter impenitent darkness” that strengthened Satan and the rebellious angels in their confrontation with God, the ruler of heaven. Our search aligns us with Satan, the Opposer, for we aim to bring down the slave morality that turns every man and woman into a herd animal. Just like Satan, we need to resurrect, to build our Pandemonium: a grand infernal palace whose walls are decorated with numinous artistic designs celebrating the Sinister through the ages. As one admires these grand works, one’s ears will be caressed by unearthly melodies, sonic creations that delve into one’s unconscious and stir up the Beast, Leviathan, that lies sleeping on the bottom of the abyss. One’s mind will be guided as it flies through strange inhuman and threatening spheres. The passage through these nine spheres is not safe, as it is only meant for the boldest and most disobedient of beings, those who are capable of preparing the advent of the Übermensch.

Wordsworth said that suffering is “permanent, obscure and dark”, and so is the journey through the dominions of the Dark Gods. Furthermore, he added that this suffering has the nature of infinity and how could it be different! Did you really think that the immolation of your causal self could be established by a single ritual? Some silly mumbo-jumbo that is as dull as ditch water. One has to sacrifice, to immolate one-self ad infinitum. The Pandemonium will have to be rebuilt over and over again but that will not kill those who are willing to pursue this task; it will only make them stronger. To traverse these outer regions might make you feel a prey to “a perpetual horror”, namely, the angst of being buried prematurely or the fear “to find [your]self the tenant of a grave.” (E.A. Poe) This “sepulchral Idea” might haunt as you travel from one sphere to another, but the never-ending process of dying and being reborn is part of this alchemical journey. Venture “into the outer Night”, listen to the cries of the “great agonies” that reign in these obscure zones. Do not rush into a world of phantasms, where all the Last Men flee from the terrors that await the dwellers of the bottomless pit. Be prepared to pass through these melancholic spheres, which you shall experience “with an utter depression of soul” incomparable to any earthly sensation, besides perhaps the experience of an opium-eater who bitterly lapses into everyday life. “The hideous dropping off of the veil”, as Poe calls it. The veil of everyday life, of your causal meditations, of your ideological concerns will only seem a deceptive appearance. The Immolation of the self is therefore the immolation of one’s causal interests, those that sterilize the Will to Power. It is the final destruction of Paradise. Enter this rite and leave the Torture Garden, and be baptized in the lake of fire and brimstone. Free the acausal energy within, as “energy is Eternal Delight.” (W.Blake)
